Zak Langley of the COPS Racing Team scored a First Place win at SCORE’S San Felipe Challenge of Champions in Class 12 on September 10th. The teams Class 10 car came in 3rd Place, with their Class 1 finishing 6th after a rollover at the beginning of the race.
Bernie Carr and co-driver Jason Walker brought the car to Zak Langley and co-driver Mike Howell at Race Mile 121. During the driver change, the pit crew discovered cracked lower front tube as the car was about to continue the race, which necessitated a welding delay that dropped the COPS class 12 car to second place. Once on the road, Zak caught and passed the leader at Huatemote Wash and held the lead to the finish.
“Other than the welding issue, we had a good clean run”, said Zak Langley. “Bernie did a great job getting the car to me in first place. No flats on the BFGs and the new King shocks worked great. It was an awesome day!”
The COPS Racing team plans to enter the Baja 1000 in November, with Zak Langley in hot pursuit of the championship in a very close 2nd place.
