2011 Dakar Rally
New “Dakar” route has been presented – Volkswagen anticipates demanding terrain
The gruelling Atacama desert, the dizzying altitudes of the Andes, quick gravel stretches in “La Pampa” – the Dakar Rally’s third event in Argentina and Chile will go farther north than ever before. As title defender after its victories in January 2009 by Giniel de Villiers/Dirk von Zitzewitz and in 2010 by Carlos Sainz/Lucas Cruz, Volkswagen anticipates even more demanding routes for its “hat-trick mission”. In 2011 the legendary desert rally will take the contenders to the borders of Bolivia and Peru, five of the twelve stage-finish locations are new on the route.
