    Class 5 only

It kills me that Kawasaki have changed their Green over time. Someone is truly clueless at that company. proper old school Kawasaki Green (aka "Lime Green")

    Class 5 only

Has anyone tried the Nissan 2.5L engine that is used in low end Nissan Frontier trucks to power a Class 5? I don't know a lot about these, but some friends of mine are really into Nissan cars and trucks. One fellow is kicking ass in the Drift Car series in a Nissan 240 Coupe. It has a small...

Done! The Green Buggie is now immortalized as the encyclopedic example of the type! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCORE_Class_5

    Class 5 only

Thank you. I will do so! I was actually thinking of your car, because it's a microcosm of the evolution of the entire class, and it's green, and I like green stuff. I have to take a break from editing right now, but will get to it no later than tomorrow.

    Class 5 only

Hi guys! Happy New Year. I decided to update the Wikipedia article titled SCORE: Class 5. The original article was rated "stub" and looks like someone cut and pasted it from the SCORE rulebook at the same time they created about a dozen other articles of this type. That's not really the way...

    Class 5 only

OK, they have. So I'm interested in your perspective too, now! Please share them! Are you another lurker who is thinking about getting involved in Class 5? One problem for me is that I live in Vancouver, WA which is far from both the races and the builders. I don't consider it a show...

    Class 5 only

Thank you for your several helpful comments on this thread. Your car is also very cool looking, and you are a big inspiration to get out and do it. I've read the 250 posts backlog here, so I have a mini-history of what's been accomplished since 2012 in Class 5 - and from all of that, and it's...

    Class 5 only

Wow! What an awesome looking car. Just gorgeous. So, I take it the first picture is the buggy with the "skin off" and then the second is with the skin on. Are the "doors" actually a second layer over the black (aluminum) body that I see in the first picture, or is it the same thing only...

2019: Why are TT's faster than Class 1 buggies?

Rules changes make vehicles like this illegal for Class 1 now. Vehicles must have rear or mid-engine configuration and Independent rear suspension. The Truggy problem was solved, And no more front-engine buggies, even with IFS. The Land Shark is gone, but not forgotten.

    Class 5 only

Thanks! That's some excellent first hand experience. Yes, I noticed the BITD rules are more restrictive than the SCORE rules, but even under the SCORE rules the Grabowski Suburu is clearly illegal, even to a mere amature observer like myself. It's not like you need to go over it with a...

    Class 5 only

Thanks! This was really useful and interesting. Sounds like good advice. It's amazing that everyone involved has informal rules that they understand and work, but it's pretty baffling coming from the outside to try to understand. So, from the outsider's perspective, I think more people might...

    Class 5 only

The BITD rules are a little more detailed: SCR49: CHASSIS & BODY Vehicle must retain original steel body and doors. Metal may be added to strengthen the body and floor pan. Floor pan is optional. One-piece front ends are permitted. Removal of front and rear sheet metal is permitted but only...

    Class 5 only

I found this article about the blue Subaru, I don't think it's been posted previously. Grabowski Brothers Racing’s Unlimited Class 5 Crosstrek Isn’t Your Grandma’s Subaru Which, I think sort of shows what I was talking about. The rules-as-practiced and the rules-as-written seem very different...

    Class 5 only

I'm trying to learn more about the different classes in desert racing, and am particularly interested in the Class 5 Unlimited. I've read most of this topic, consisting of 250 pages of posts, and so I am aware that the rules for the class were changed a few years ago to permit a wider variety of...

Single seat buggies, why so few?

Several classes, when you read the rules, allow either one or two seat buggies, but in watching the cars take off you never see single seat buggies? Does anyone use them? Is the lack of a co-driver such a disadvantage that there is no reason to go that route? Wouldn't the lower weight...

2019: Why are TT's faster than Class 1 buggies?

It looks like the rules for Class 1 no longer allow truggies, right? Engine has to be mid or rear, with independent rear suspension and transaxle?
