1/4" steel plate and a stock S10 spindle for caliper mounts. He used a Millermatic 220, I think the spindles are cast, so thats why it didn't penetrate as well. PLus there were not gussets.

A 2.5inch shock has a 1/2"x4" bolt, and as for the uniball bolting in, just drill out the hole so that its the same size as the bolt that goes thru the spherical bearing misalignment spacers. Thats what I'd do.
