    Class 7/7200 Subaru Forester

Can't wait to see what it can really do when you get the suspension tuned better! If you need someone to drive it harder while you film it next time I can offer my services...

    position sensitive shocks

I've recently been reading up on different styles of internally position sensitive shocks so I thought I'd bump this thread and dump the info here. One style is a tube inside the outer shock body. The piston rides in this inner tube and the inner tube has bypass holes and/or reed valves to...

    Class 7/7200 Subaru Forester

That rear articulation is sick. Are you going to build inner fenders and/or reroute the intake? Build a prerunner style bumper? Can't wait to see videos of you hammering out some whoops.

    Electric Fuel Pumps

I second the Carter 4070, used them for 12 years and never had one fail. Low enough pressure you don't have to run a regulator. Plenty of flow for 200+hp and quiet. The only bad thing about them is the push on wire terminals, it is a pain to put the metal clip in place to hold them on but...

    east coast offroad racing?

I think there are plenty of racers too, I wouldn't be surprised if there's at least 100 guys with buggies and trucks that used to be race legal. Informing most of them about a race like this would be hard, getting enough of them in the same place at the same time would be even harder. It would...

    east coast offroad racing?

I think there are plenty of places in the midwest where you could lay out a five mile loop that would be good for an off road race. I think the big problem is getting enough racers to show up to make it worthwhile for the landowner and being able to police and support a course of that size.

    east coast offroad racing?

Five mile loops. 2-3 hour enduros. MAORA had a bunch of those at different courses years ago, the bottom line is not enough people were showing up to race to make it worth putting them on. Many times the tech director would tell us that thirty people called him asking about the race and then...

    east coast offroad racing?

Interlake would be about as good. Yes, you'd want somewhere with open areas and/or wide trails. Worst case someone breaks down on a narrow woods trail and shuts down the race. What do you mean by a short course? One mile course, wheel to wheel, fifteen minute races? They tried short course...

    east coast offroad racing?

Badlands off road park in Attica, Indiana. Cool place to trail ride but full size (cars/trucks) have to be 4WD. They had KOH qualifiers there fairly recently but the only motorized thing I see on the schedule for this year is a hare scramble. Old motocross course has been closed off for a few...

    east coast offroad racing?

The off road parks I've been to at old mines are usually a mix of tailings (like pea gravel) and old mine access roads. Those can get rough, rutted out, and have standing water but they're probably nowhere near as rocky as you're picturing. We have raced at one of them and it was one of the...

    east coast offroad racing?

I think your best bet would be old mining land. That seems to be where most of the off road parks east of the Mississippi are. Much easier than trying to run something even partially on public roads. This place for instance is over 40,000 acres and I have heard could be much larger...

Why is TORC so hyped up on going to nascar tracks ?

More of a general statement that they don't have to go to a bunch of different tracks all over the country to make a good TV show. Say two at Crandon, two at BR, two at ERX/Red Bud. One argument I always got from the TORC guys is that the series sponsors wanted them to race in different parts...

Why is TORC so hyped up on going to nascar tracks ?

I raced CORR/WSORR/TORC/MORR for over ten years and always wondered the same thing. For the sake of the TV show, which I hope is where the series makes most of their income, does it matter where the tracks are? Could they just have three rounds each at Crandon and BR? Most of the racers in...

Thoughts on and questions about V2R from the Subaru guy

Thanks. We're thinking about trying it again. Just shows most human decisions aren't rational I guess. We're also thinking about driving to Reno early this summer, doing some trail riding on the way out and back (CO/WY/UT), and check out the end of the V2R course and possibly the Rubicon. If...

On Topic Pit closing times @ BITD

As my grandpa used to say, "kid, life ain't fair." To be really "fair", the slowest trucks and buggies would start first so the course wouldn't be rutted out and they'd have more time to finish, more daylight to race in, etc. But that would be very unsafe and ruin the race for the faster...

On Topic Pit closing times @ BITD

I would have agreed last year, but this year I thought the pit closing times were very generous. Only about six trucks started behind us, and we had one of the slowest cars on the course, but we were still to pit 3 around 3:30, stopped there for almost an hour, and made it to pit 4 by 5:30. We...

    In car camera systems

I'm surprised that is useful while driving. The rear camera connected to our 10" tablet was no better than a standard mirror due to the wide angle.

    In car camera systems

Not sure what you will do about dust on the lens. I would recommend the narrowest angle camera you can get. Even 140 degrees on a ten inch screen doesn't let you see very far back. We used a dashcam, easy wifi setup to a tablet. One thing to consider is that the image will be backwards...
