So we spent most of yesterday driving the 200 mile tour route thru the back roads of North Carolina. Beautiful country views. People were lined up in every little town along the route waving and taking pictures. Some even had their Hot Rods parked out front to show them off as we went thru. Just about every corner became a burnout spot. Even the local Cops were telling people to burnout. So awsome.
We finally made it to Martinsville speedway and got to park on the track. When we left, we made a few laps around the track. Didnt realise how small the track really is.
On one of our laps, going down the back stretch, we stopped and asked a worker driving a mule if we could do a burn out. He said we had to ask the guy in the back seat. At first the old man said no. Then we talked him into just a short one and he said to do it near the inside wall. Find out later the old man was the owner of the track. Awsome day. I have a video. I'll try and figure out how to post it.
Bit of a set back today.
Had stopped at a cool shop in town, Gear Headz customs to get some work done in both vehicles. Great bunch of guys that made us feel at home. Talked to a local airbrush artist who was really cool. He drove the hauler truck for Robby Gordon for a while. Both NASCAR and Baja.
Was on the road doing good, stopped for gas and the torque converter on the truck let go. Dropped it off at a shop and picked up a rental to continue on.
Further up the road, the motor seized in the Camaro. Packed everything in the rental and we are continuing on. WE WILL FINISH WHAT WE STARTED.
Well yesterday was my Bday and so we made the best of it.
Standing at the stage listening to John Force. Robert Height, and Austin Prock, they all signed a Yeti Cooley. Guy says first Camaro owner to come the stage gets it. I pushed my buddy to the stage and he got it.
Next thing I know, hes handing it to me saying Happy Bday.
Then they all came off stage to sign autograph pictures. I said " John, it's my Bday, will you sign my shirt? " First he said Happy Bday and then told me to come around the table to where he was. He signed my shirt and we shook hands as my buddy took pictures. I didnt know it but my buddy set my new coolie in front of us as he took the pic. Awsome day.
I also went to the brickyard and toured the museum. Couldn't go on the track as McLaren had the track for the day. But still a good time.
Made a few side trips the last 2 days. Went to the brickyard on my Bday and toured the museum. McLaren had the track so we could not go out on the track. Some really cool cars and history in the museum.
Yesterday I went over to Auburn, Indiana to the Auburn. Cord. Dusenburg museum. It is in the original building, show room on the ground floor and offices upstairs. While leaving, I saw a guy coming out of the garage building next to the museum. Asked if that was the garage where they work on the cars and got invited in. Cool car guys and some cool packers in there they were working on.
Both were cool museums and worth the trip if you are in the area.
