my buddy has a 97 ranger and we recently blew up the rear differential. We got a complete rear end outa a junk yard for 150 bucks but we know that its not gonna last to long whats the recomendation on a possible rear end switch. Not to much $ but i think we can afford probably $750. Any recomendations?

Buy an explorer rear end with disk brakes and have a rear end shop install it. Might be a little more than $750 but worth it.

Like Jerry said. We threw an explorer axle on a 2000 Ranger, and it wasnt a major overhaul. The main thing is welding on new spring pads, getting larger u-bolts and corresponding spring backing plates, and welding on new shock mounts. Plus the explorer axle is a little wider, so that and disk brakes makes it worth it.

ya, the mxc install came out sweet on my truck. in addition to what scott said the explorer axle has 31 splines and axle ends comparable to a ford 9"
