Air bumps & shock stops

Is it ok to remove the rubber washer style bump limiter if fitting air bumps (the 3/8" thick rubber that stops metal to metal contact)

Bumpstop tips wear, strike pads indent etc., this causes the upstop point to effectively raise with use. If you want to remove the rubber, gain maybe 1/4" more shock travel at full bump and run the risk of going metal to metal then sure, cut away.
