Once a year we do a trip to baja to do a little riding. Normally we spend a few days a a friends beach house in San Felipe then go somewhere out in the middle of the desert and set up a base camp and do day rides from there. The plan for this trip was different. We were just going to leave the trucks in San Felipe and head south on the quads and go as far as we felt like going. We would be able to camp pretty much whenever or wherever. This was possible due to the fact that the other quads are utility ATVs and were able to carry lots of gear. Ill let the pics do most of the explaining.

Day 1:
We left the house in La Ponderosa and headed out Zoo road to the race course and went south. The idea was to bypass town then catch what I call the small pole line road, then out to Percebu and down the beach to Puertocitos, then Gonzaga. We went a little out of our way on some old race courses, which I enjoyed. The old guys not so much. Made a few required beer stops and had a great meal at Alfonsinas. No gas at the station in Gonzaga so we went across to Rancho Grande. Then set up camp just north of the military check point. About 130 miles that day.

more to come

Day 2:
Got up fairly early and broke down camp. A quick shock adjustment to the Rzr and we were off. We had a couple of side trips planned today just south of Gonzaga. First La Turquesa, can the grade be done on a quad? (Shhhh don't tell the dirtbikers) After messing around there it was time to go have a beer at Coco's. We talked with him awhile and he seemed to be in good spirits and enjoyed our company. He would play a helpful role a little later in the trip. From Coco's we headed out to Calamujue Point where I was told to try and catch dinner. Upon arrrival we met a local fisherman that was just bringing in his catch of the day. His name is Arthur and was extremely friendly. He gave us our choice of fish and quickly filleted a whole yellow tail tuna for us. We set up camp about a mile south of the beach and had a great dinner.

Day 3:
We left Calamajue point and headed off towards the canyon. I had heard rumors that the water crossing were deep and I soon found out this was true. In fact at one spot in particular a couple of "creative lines" were taken to avoid the deep water that would probably drown the other quads and definitely drown mine. Other than the few crossings I really enjoy riding through Calamajue. Not too long after we got out of the canyon and into open desert I saw what looked to be trails of gas in the road. The only one ahead of me was the Rzr. After calling on the radio and catching up to him we discovered that a rock decided to tear a hole into the bottom of his engine. We made the decision to hook up two quads and tow him to the highway. It went surprisingly well so off to Cocos we went. We sent one rider ahead to Coco's while I spent my time trying to fend off any traffic. Coco was gracious enough to loan his flat bed truck and 5 gallons of gas. But by the time our friend with the truck reached us we were only a few miles away from Cocos. Upon arrival Coco insisted we could fix the damage and was soon barking out orders for what we should be doing. He really went out of his way to help us and a very generous tip was given for his efforts. In fact he offerd to let us drive his truck all the way to San Felipe. From there we went back to Alfonsinas where we got a couple rooms and had another great dinner amd met another group of buggies.

Awesome trip. I love that fresh fish on an open fire..

Thanks for the feedback guys. So far I haven't had any bad baja trips. I just want to start going more than once a year. I would like at some point to get a group of sport quads together and do something like what many of these dirtbakie groups do (travel light and fast). Most my friends have the "baja phobia" though so its gonna take some more convincing.

Since our ride had ended a little earlier than planned we decided to spend the last 4-5 days at the beach house. It was still a great time and we did lots of day rides out of San Felipe, but I wish we wouldve made it to Bay of LA. Oh well, next year I guess. These are the last of the photos.

That looks awesome!!!! I have done only one ride in Mexico (Mike Sky Ranch) and it was without a doubt the funnest riding I have done. It blows away our local riding (superstition, glamis, ect.). I cant wait to go back. Thanks for the pics.

Mikes is one of the places I've wanted to see but just haven't got around to it yet. I'm already starting to think about where I want to go next year. And I agree, out of the places I have ridden its my favorite, there's just something about it that attracts you. Its almost an addiction!
