I just looked at the TV listings in my area and it says that the show is a repeat of the Laughlin race.?? I guess we will see what it is.

According to DirecTV listings, it's the Laughlin race. I bet they goofed, & it's really the Baja 1000. I hope so, because I want to check out the 1000, which I missed. I left for S. Africa just after the Baja 1000 weekend for some off-roading, that's why. Man, the locals took me offroading in the (dry sandy) Limpopo & Sand River, near the border of Zimbabwe. Both times, my Landcruiser needed help from a LandRover to get out. My driver/guide was a real wild dude, he's only 17 but does hunting/guiding & is an expert off-roader. He was on National Geographic with his dad, who were corraling animals for relocation ("game capture"). That guy had a kick-ass mentality. He wanted to go after some girl driving recklessly in a red lifted jeep (about the only disco truck we saw over there), & "flip it over"...with his bare hands. (he's a weightlifter & rugby player)

"Land Rover Recovery Vehicle", was the humorous sign on the back of my Landcruiser. It worked the other way around. The S. African off-roaders are pretty outspoken & rowdy like here in North America. I base-camped at a Landrover prep shop. Man, you should have seen the fab work -- custom bumpers, et al. Really different, they have a different approach to off-roading. No huge tires, no lifts (bodies real close to the ground), mostly adventure offroading in the African Wild. There are some preliminary pics here. It was 100 degrees & more intense solar heat (20 deg south lat, earth tilted up means the sun was scorching). It's summer down there, I froze when I got back to LAX.

Well on my television (Dish) right now is yet another re-run of Laughlin on OLN. Considering the next actual Laughlin race is less than 3 weeks away this re-run of a re-runs re-run is getting pretty boring. Does OLN have any other footage they can toss into the mix? I know one of the OLN big wigs posted on RDC before... wonder if anything new is going to be aired in the next few months.

I didn't bother to see what the guide said but the 1000 is NOT on OLN right now. boo hoo

With OLN's or the producers permission I would like to capture it and rebroadcast it on our server....so more ppl could watch it.
I myself missed it.. thought it was at 3pm....instead of 2pm. So I turned on the TV right after it aired.

So how was the show ?

I thought the show was pretty good. Much better than all the Shoemaker productions in the past. They started by showing a few interviews of Herbst and Ashley given by the infamous Roeseller and Ryan Arciero. Then went straight to the racing action from the start line. There was one camera on the back side of the leap and 3 cameras filming the infeild action. The helicopter footage was pretty good but could have been a little closer. There was one good shot of Steinberger coming up to the first RD-Xing and almost over-correcting himself into a roll-over. My overall rating including camera quality, position, production and commentation by the best commentator in desert racing would be a 8 out of 10. Looking forward to seeing more of this kind of production in the next races.

Guess what? My driver/guide in S. Africa was Anna Kournikova's bodyguard, when she was in S. Africa. Yeah, she was on a farm not far from where I was, & Mario Gerner was escorting her around Messina/S. Africa (where I observed the eclipse, near Zimbabwe border). He has her email & converses with her, & I've been promised a "connection". His girlfriend is actually more attractive than Anna, so that tells you something about the girls in S. Africa.

The girl next to me on the plane (London to Johannesburg, 10 hr flight) was the Miss Teen S. Africa for her province (4th place in the Miss Legs South Africa). She grew up on a farm, rides motorcycles, & was getting a 4x4 pickup-truck as a present from her dad. She works as a makeup artist in England, & does celebrities. She was really pleasant, & friendly. She gave me some tips for S. Africa travel, & I will upload a picture for her in my acknowledgements section.

I saw a lot of blonde hair in S. Africa, the young people there are like here in the USA fashion wise. S. Africa would be a good trip, it's a really diverse country geographically & it's basically 1st world country (if you can ignore the crime). There's a lot of similar offroad action there, including fights with the gov for beach access.

Careful down there. One in every four is HIV positive according to the latest stats I heard.
