I think if you interpret the rules it's just smart racing...For the younger guys, try to get hold of Smokey Yunick's book on some of the stuff he pulled...that guy was WAY on another level, and I'm not talking about longer fuel lines...
In 1989 I was hired by a fab shop to do all the welding on 3 identical Mitsubushi's for IMSA road racing...the cars were pretty hi dollar deals, all TIG welded and had to be show quality work...The rules stated no additional welding on the sheetmetal that made up all the uni-body frame, just the factory spot welds...Well we stitched up all the sheetmetal with Silicone Bronze but since it's considered a brazing process and not actually welding we got away with it....ha...ha...
