I just got home from Baja 500 and with less than 25 miles to go here's how they were running,Herbst'sTruggy,Weyhrich,Myers,Mark Miller(without 1 body panel on the thing),Hovey,Herbst's Trophy Truck(with a very sick engine).I waited 1 hour after Troy came by and that's all that showed up.

Re: Baja 500 Results

The start of the race was strange. Mark Post was late to the start. Collins was late to the start. Several Class 1 cars were late to stage. When the Trophy Trucks and class 1 cars left they weren't all in perfect 30 second intervals. I almost think some people thought the race was starting at 8:00.

Re: Baja 500 Results

yup, lots of TT drivers were still getting dressed when they got to the start line. Actually, I think only Enduro Racing, Jesse Jones and Darren Skilton were ready to go. 3 others were in late tech or registering. The truggy won overall 4 wheel, Mark Miller/ Larry Ragland won TT, Vanderwey's 8 truck (with Curt Leduc finishing) was the only 8 truck to cross the line as of 1.30 am. S & S Racing won class 720, followed by the Hardin truck. Those guys beat the 7 and 5 open classes, too. A good day for Chevy. BTW, will someone post photos of the Tecate girls asap????? Especially the bottle blond.

Re: Baja 500 Results

I think that Larry Ragland was driving with Brian Collins not Mark Miller.

Nice looking Chevy (Mendez), and on time. Larry had his same white truck there, but he did not start the race.

Re: Baja 500 Results

Larry Ragland was scheduled to race with Brian Collins, but when the motor blew early on, that ended that. Mark Miller started feeling sick around race mile 270, so Larry got in his Trophy Truck and brought it to the finish. They ended up 1st in Trophy Truck and 4th overall.

Nothing new for Off-Road.com. They ALWAYS boast about real time results but can't seem to pull it off.

It's like false advertising or something.

Re: Baja 500 Results

Man what a race! At one point, we (Chuck Hovey/Allways Racing) were leading overall (corrected time) near rm280ish. At ojos-to-the-finish, (due to Marking's transmission failure) we were 2nd overall/2nd on course/ 2 min behind truggy with Weyrick,Ragland,Meyers bunched up 1 min behind us. THE RACE WAS ON! Then the ever-so-feared rear flat came with 40 miles to go.
Allways racing/Chuck Hovey finished 4th in class 1 and fifth overall(4 wheel vehicle).

Congrats and THANKS to everyone on our team for an outstanding performance, at every pit. It took everyone's help to get this finish.

ALSO-our other half of Allways Racing (Martin Cristensen) had an engine failure at around rm150 after going from 19th to 6th in class 10. Once again he was on a mission! To bad his luck hasn't matched his performance. That day is soon approaching.

Next- The Nevada 1000. And ANOTHER "2 week" prep. Gotta love doing 17 races this year.
Seams like we're Allways Racing!!!!!!!<P ID="edit"><FONT SIZE=-1>Edited by AllwaysRcn on 06/02/02 03:41 PM (server time).</FONT></P>

Re: Baja 500 Results

I wonder why off-road.com shows the herbst's TT winning Trophy Truck. Mark Miller/Lightning Larry finished First in class with no others in sight (corrected).
Sorry el tiburon-don't have much info on 16,12,10 victories. The 10's and 12's were swapping positions all over the map. Vic Bruckman and the Rick St. John/Adam P. duo were up front in 12 for most of the race I believe.

<font color=red>Results:</font color=red>

For Baja 500 results and times <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.race-dezert.com/cgi-bin/wwwthreads/showflat.pl?Cat=&Board=news1&Number=23801&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=186&part=&vc=>click here </A>.

<font color=red>Observations:</font color=red>

- Steve Hengeveld/ Jonny Campbel (1x) won with a 49 minutes lead over the fastest 4 wheeled vehicle. Jonny Campbel was just injured at a previous race.
- Team Smith/Ashley (1), blew an engine in the race. High RPM's in the dirt...then hooking up on pavement did something to the powerplant.
- Herbst (19, 100) had two collisions with vehicles driving the race course. A reminder to be careful out there.
- Kash Vessels (1605) Finished with the rear suspension collapsed. Torsion bar failure ?
- Marking (105) flying at Valle de Trinadad (RM 270). First vehicle on the course but never finished. They had the lead at the halfway point.
- Team EJR (44) rolled twice but finished. Its a former Protruck entered in TT.
- Mark Miller (81) won in TT. Larry Ragland took the wheel for the second half of the race.
- Legend Curt LeDuc drove some part of the race for/with Nick Vanderway (805) and finished with the Protrucks. 10 Minutes after Al Hogan (226) and 4 Minutes before Barlow (299). Truck looked fast all day long.
- Joe Patelli (806) expired an engine.
- We wish all of those that got injured a quick recovery. Racing is dangerous.

Re: Baja 500 Results

TT's started out hard with Collins out @ RM 10 on Hwy 3, blown Motor, Heard Ashley had a motor go, and Riviera had Transmission Problems with it slipping at around RM 30 or so and changed it in a hour at RM 60 Ojo's Negros... so an hour down there...Jesse Jones in the New 76 TT had a slight lead on the pavement on Hwy 3, RM 25 didn't see him much after that ???? Juan Carlos Ibarra was the 1st car physically in the old Simon & Simon TT for awhile, through Valley de Trinidad, through San Telmo Rd. with Herbst TT 4 minutes back then Truggy on his bumper 10 to 15 seconds back. Mark Miller running consistant and the Hoffman Pro/TT. John Marking in the Big Jimco, Andrew Myers and Weyhrich were up there in the Top 10 overall at that point with the surprise of Scott Sellers in the Class 10 Chenowth Millinium. At San Vincente going onto the pavement, Marking and Herbst had only 14 second differental for overall, with Herbst TT, Weyhrich, Hovey, Myers and Mark Miller Pro/TT entry... Herbst TT sounded like they lost a cylinder or 2 going down the pavement on Hwy 3 but was still hauling the mail. Most of the Class 1's were on the last 12 miles of dirt pretty close to finishing, with the Mark Miller Pro/TT... All in all great day, glad everyone is safe...... **** Lots of the TT driver's where late to the start because they where told at the drivers meeting 8 a.m. Start and they started at 7:30. PS>> Congrats to all the winners and especially to ALL the FINISHERS, that was a tough course.....

Re: Baja 500 Results

Congratulations to Scott Sellers for the class 10 win (6th overall). Way to represent San Clemente! Scott also co-drove with Ed Stewart for the overall win at the Snore Buffalo Bill 400. Where is Johnny Campbell from? Oh yeah, he's from San Clemente too.

Re: Baja 500 Results

So nice to get the straight scoop when you drive in from the river. Thanks all. Still no engine to beat the S & S boys with... Had to drown my sorrows at the river.
