Baja fuel prices and exchange rate at the pump

Haven't been down in a while, I hear its pretty expensive, almost 5 bucks a gallon for 91? What is the going rate? BTW the bank is giving 16.8 pesos for a dollar and the local exchange is giving 16.6. I usually get pesos before a trip because I've found you get gouged at the pump when paying in dollars but I'm not sure its less than 17 at the pump right now. BTW the current exchange rate is 18. Thanks!

Bring all the Pesos you can. The further you get down the worse the exchange rate is. Last year at 1000 we figured that if we used pesos to buy fuel we saved $20 to $30 a fill up.

I am assuming we can get pesos from an Ensenada ATM? If so is there a limit on the amount?

Yup in years past having pesos was a no brainer, just checking to see if that is still the case. Rudy said he filled up a 10 gallon dump can a few weeks ago and it cost 50 bucks.

ATMS have a daily limit, no idea what they are in Mexico but the amount of fuel we have to buy we'd have to buy it would be a PITA to hit all those ATMs. We'd have to send more than one guy every day to max out.

I use the ATM in the casino next to the San Nick. I figure there's less chance of credit fraud there since it's high-use.

use a debit/credit card, all gas stations accept PIN code transactions.
Not all of them will (or at least they'll tell you they don't).

South Mexicali going to San Felipe we paid 88.00 dollars for 20 gallons.

Pull out PESO at A Bank ATM and pay cash. Less risk of your card getting cloned and you get a way better exchange rate. Do not pay USD at pemex. You should get almost 18 to 1

Exchange booths are generally very bad rates. Watch for the one that do not post rates. The one at Cabo airport gave friends like 12 to 1 a few months back..
