Before I go aftermarket...What can I find in a salvage yard of equal strength and dur

First, I want to thank anyone who replies with advice and guidance for my project. One that I have been longing to do since I saw my first Downey backed Toyota prerunner back in 1990 when I was in elementary school.
Before I install a long travel suspension kit on my 2002 5.3L 1/2 ton 2WD Silverado Ext. Cab I wanted to make sure I had the steering components and drivetrain under it that would support the oversize tires, offroad use, and extra travel (u-joints, yoke lengths and angles, etc.).
From your experience, what could I find at a salvage yard that would be of equal strength and durability off of maybe a 3/4 or 1 ton truck? Am I right to assume finding a bigger heavier rear end would not only improve strength but add weight to the rear wheels to help my 2WD with traction?

Thanks so much for your time,
