BITD baja mex 300

This is BITD's only foray into Baja and only their second year of racing Mexico. The course will start and finish at Estero Beach Resort south of Ensenada. The course has not been announced but will probably head east thru El Alamo, Santa Catarena wash, Valley T, out to the coast and then up the coast thru Erendira and return to Estero. Casey Folks will be looking for "new" sections that have never been raced before. Once the course is announced, there will be plenty of great places to spectate/film since much of the course will have been raced by Score racers. However, BITD has a long way to go to make this as popular as a Score Baja race.
Speaking from a motorcycle point of view, BITD gives their racers an option to drop a race in computing points standings, and many BITD bike racers will not come to Baja (various reasons, many still hung up on the Danny Hamel incident). Last year's inaugural race was fun in that there were just enough entries to make it competitive but no dust. We had a great time - it was short, fun and a chance to race Baja.

If the course is really going backwards from last year you would think that the fog on the pacific side in the early morning would be kinda bad, it was pretty bad last year and we were only in it for about 25 miles. Going backwards up the goat trail would be just about impossible I think, especailly in our class. Either way I can't wait to go, always love racing in Mexico

Here's the course map. Same course as last year, but run in opposite direction. This should be fun. The distance between Pit 5 and Pit 6 is 72 miles, so BITD is staging an Auxiliary Gas stop up the road from Uruapan for bikes and quads only. The first 6 miles and the last 9 miles of the course are not open for pre-running until the Thursday afternoon before the race when BITD will have an escorted pre-run of those sections.
Registration will be at the Riviera Convention Center (same as Score races) and Contingency/Tech will be in the big dirt lot immediately west of the Riviera on the waterfront. Race start will be in front of the Riviera. Llano Colorado is at Hwy 1 / KM 103, about 60 miles south of Ensenada. Dunno about the Estero bar, but Girardo Novello has gotta keep it open late!
We got chased down by a farmer on the race course as it approached Pit 6 on Saturday. He told us the road leading to Pit 6 was "his" road and no one had permission to pre-run or race on it. In the back of his truck were BITD arrows and course markings he had just taken down. We left a written note for Casey Folks at Estero Beach. BTW, LOTS of course markings gone that were there the previous weekend.
Looks like Casey is getting a taste of something Sal Fish deals with all the time. It will be resolved, the guy is probably upset he didn't get a better $$$ distro from the ejido.

Another thing to watch out for is the cops taking your Race car or pre-runner when driving on the streets. Last year cost me and a few others a few hundred not to loose our cars . I know of 4 guys who this happend to. All the cops told us was "This is not a Score race" Casey did not take care of the police. They will take your vehicle to impound and you can get it back on the following Tuesday Stripped ! Hope Casey stopped by the local police station this year !
Last year there seemed to be a lot bad publicity for this race but it went w/o incident for us. It cost one of the guys some D cell batteries at the check point coming into Ensenada but that wasn't too bad. We are packed, prepped and ready to rock this year.

Those things happening are nothing new. I guess its just part of it. Not cool at all though. To all the Teams going down there, Good luck and ride smart and safe. Dont want to hear of and bad wrecks. Lets all get home safe. Go TEAM Off-Road.com of Dean and Justin Waters on the Q62 quad.
