BLM in charge of US helium supplies

A welding blog mentioned that the Bureau of land mismanagement is now in charge of all future US helium production. (What could possibly go wrong?) Does anyone use helium on their aluminum Fab work? Expect a price hike soon.

The price hicked about 12-15 years ago. At that time argon became the simple solution. It’s the kiddy’s that aren’t going to be able to afford balloons that pay the price now.

Probably 12 years ago I went down to the welding store to fill a K bottle and it was something like $400 bucks. I never filled another bottle with helium after that.

That’s about the time heliarc welding became tig welding. But hey. It could still go up more I guess.

There is NO helium production by man, only extraction. Nature "produces" helium, an element.
