Thanks as always for those who attended the meeting tonight.

It seems like we have a slightly new plan for 2016, so sorry for the late changes, but there are some things we couldn't address sooner. Current plans for a race schedule are:

May 14th, Vernal Short Course Race, but longer than last year, still all on County land, no Mother's Day conflicts.
July 2nd, Jackpot Desert Race, same course as always, we figured that gives everyone a long weekend to both race and get back home for family activities on the 4th.
September 10th, Long Course Race, either Wendover or Vernal depending on what we can work out with BLM.

These dates are nailed down with BOR, so please plan accordingly.

We're applying for several BLM permits contiguously to cover our bases, continuously pursuing other options and trying to understand and work with the BLM to understand and mitigate land use issues. We're looking at private and Indian land inside and outside Utah, including Ely, Knolls, Delle.

Thanks all for your patience!

Thanks for everyone who came to the meeting last night. Vernal is turning out to be the place to race. May 14th is on for sure, we have the park again, and are looking at extending out into the shooting range. Even better is the fact that we can extend across the gully into the western part of the park south of the highway, the county is willing to install some culvert to make those crossings possible. That puts us at a 20 mile loop at least. If the shooting range works out, we can hit 30. No matter what, it won't be the same course as last year. Some of the same tracks, but maybe backwards and linked together differently. No go-kart track, we promise!

Due to the shorter daylight hours compared to the June race, we'll be reducing heats and combining classes into fewer heats, but with longer loop miles, we don't think that'll be an issue.

We are now working on marketing, hotel rates, sponsors, local support, etc. Please keep this one on your calendar, we're looking to surpass last year's short course event.

Jackpot is still on the books, We're working with the Burley BLM District and local Chamber to make that happen just prior to July 4th. They've been asking us to come back, so we're confident in making that happen.

The September race will either be in Wendover or back in Vernal. We'd all love to race Wendover, so we're trying to get the Elko BLM District back in our good graces. However, Vernal BLM is willing to work with us, and if we can work out some road crossings and go north or south of the County land, we could put on a serious 50 mile loop, so that's another plan. We're going to file "at-risk" permits with the BLM and State and feel like either way we'll have a longer fall race. If nothing else, we'll pick a different course on County land in Vernal.

Hey everyone, we had a great meeting tonight, thanks to all who attended to provide input. This season keeps morphing, but we have some great things in store for 2016.

Race dates are still the same and will NOT change, however locations have. The plan as of today:

May 14th - Vernal Short Course Grand Prix style
July 2nd - Jackpot (pending BLM approval), Vernal Short Course Heat Race (BAP style) as a backup.
September 10th - Vernal Long Course

To begin with, let me just be clear that we have made many efforts via email and phone to connect with the Elko and Burley BLM Districts to make Wendover and Jackpot happen. Responses have varied from less than helpful to total radio silence. We're not sure if this is due to budgetary/time constraints, but we're willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and continue to pursue working relationships. If anyone has any contacts in either of those field offices, the help would be much appreciated. We've made it as clear as we can with them that we're willing to do what it takes to make races happen in those areas, we just need to know what that is. Our next best move is to talk to the Elko County Chamber, it's possible they have some pull in the interest of economic development.

The Vernal District has been much more responsive, and I still have faith in the fact that we can connect County with BLM land to make a great long desert course happen in September.

Uintah County, as usual, has been extremely welcoming and accommodating. They are willing to help us build some cool jumps, ravine crossings, tracks, and whatever else we want on County land. We'll be headed out from April 15th - 17th to do some scouting, course finalization, etc. for anyone who wants to help, get a spy on the courses, explore the BLM land, etc.

I just ask of all BOR members, please no negative comments towards the BLM here, on our website, or any DRC posts associated with BOR. That does nothing to help our cause and will be deleted. Thank you for understanding.

So, what are our plans for 2016?

May 14th - Vernal Grand Prix - This race will consist of two races, with each class falling into either the morning race or afternoon race (TBD based on entries). Predicted mileage will be around 150 miles on a 17+ mile loop. The races will be Grand Prix style, so we will give you four or five hours to do as many laps as you can. Once the leader reaches their checker flag after the cutoff time, all racers receive the checker. Hot Pits will be provided to perform any and all work you can to get your vehicle back on course within the time limit. The race course will use a lot of the tracks from last year's Dinosaur Dash, but in a different order and some sections in reverse. We will also be extending west beyond the fence line into new territory.

I'll be sending out info on hotel discounts soon. We'll plan to have two water trucks, porta potties on site again, as well as full hook up camping in two locations. Anyone interested in contingency or other sponsorships, please contact me.

July 2nd - Jackpot Race - You all know this race, and we're still pursuing it, but it all hinges on the BLM. We're going to submit an "at-risk" permit, meaning we'll be submitting a permit and paying fees having no idea whether or not we have any chance of actually holding a race there.

July 2nd Option #2 - Vernal Dinosaur Dash - This is our backup plan if Jackpot falls through. This race would pretty much be identical to the format from last year's June 27th race, six heats, three for each grouping of classes. Due to daylight hours, this is the only time of year we can pull off this type of race in one day.

September 10th - Vernal Fossil Fuel 200 - OK, first someone has to think of a better name for this race.

We have given up on Wendover for this year. The sage grouse issue, with such limited information and virtually no solutions, is too much for us to try and work around. With Vernal District BLM cooperation, we can easily come up with a 50 mile loop, on which we would race four loops for every class. Traditional long course desert race, with pits and all that at the Buckskin Hills Motorsports Park and all of its conveniences. What else do I need to say?

We also contemplated changing our name from Bonneville Off-Road Racing to Vernal Off-Road Racing...hehe. Any Vernal locals who want to help with marketing, volunteers, sponsors, please hit me up, we can likely work out a deal. I have some good contacts and will be making calls this week, but can always use more.

Thank you BOR and all of the awesome racers, volunteers, sponsors and regulatory agencies that make this possible! It's going to be a good year.

Hammer down.

Will their be individual class wins awarded within the morning race and afternoon race? Or is it one winner in the morning race and one winner in the afternoon race?

Re: building ravine crossings and jumps... Can we just jump the ravine? I'll drive the loader if you need it.

Classes will be based on entries, 3 or more equals a class. So bring your friends.
