Can anyone identify this car?

I noticed this car in a man's driveway and had to stop and talk too him about it. It has a full tube chassis and three shock mounts in the rear. The rear trailing arms look like type II end castings with some custom tubing to make it all work. The body is a true convertible body. If anyone knows anything about this car let me know.

The rear arms are from a type 2 with a reinforcment tube weld in.

I told the owner about the NORRA Mexican 1000 and explained that I thought the car would qualify. I will stop by again and snap a few more photos, especially of the rollcage. It has a double center tube behind the drivers head. The shocks are all old Bilsteins and the travel is very limited. It is a really cool car and I hope someone might know something about. Maybe there is a story to go with the car.
