A little history on this car. It is chassis #69 and was believed to be built in 87 or 88. I pickup up its racing history in about 2003. Matt Heine (Team Kwik Racing) raced it in Sportsman and then Class 1 in MDR and then MORE. We picked it up in 2008 as a replacement play car for our Dad in pieces but with lots of useful parts that complemented the parts he had from his old car well.

A little family Chenowth history. Our Dad raced 3 cars in his day, all were Chenowths. The last one being DR2 chassis #2 which he built and raced with Mike Lund. Mike had a long history with Chenowth including driving the Factory Magnum and DR1 directly prior to and while building this car. We also had a small part in moving the Chenowth Fast Attack vehicles through the process. As a high schooler my brother and I assembled CV’s and Axles at German Auto. They then installed the engine, trans and axles prior to shipping out.

So we had originally planned to race last year. Had rooms booked but could never get everyone/everything together. But we kept planning, asking questions, etc. Gonna make it happen this year.

The car has many strong race parts on it but some need to be replaced, re-prepped. Main upgrade will be adding a 4 speed Mendeola in lieu of the Bus Box it has run for years. Car basics are: 4” KK Front Arms and Spindles, Saco Magnum Rack, Coil and Bypass on all 4, Rear Microstubs, Mendeola 2D, 2.8l Pum gas Type 4. Pretty sure we will be in the Challenger buggy class

Some panel replacement has also started as many were multi-molested over the years. All aluminum work by MME Marty as he is also part of our team

Wow! Another nice Chenowth! I can't wait to see it at NORRA. The bypass shocks knock it out of Challenger but it will fit right into Vintage Buggy.

Congrats buddy! Look forward to the progress and hearing your recap, now it just needs some vintage F.A.I.R. stickers!

Wish I had some Vintage ones but I do have the remainders of the last batch ever made

Kudos on running a Type IV!
2 Type 4's in our family. My 4 seater also has one.

OK. So here's a little snippet of our family Chenowth history

"Going For It 1" - From my very first desert race the 1978 SNORE Shamrock 350

German Auto Chenowth 1000 - "Going For It 2"

Mike Lund's 5 Link Car - One of our team cars. This car won its fair share of races including a timed event at Barstow. Cam Theirot was the first car to finish a lap (4th or 5th) and pulled into the finish area thinking there was no time for another. Mike pulled in close behind and proceeded to make a bomb run and finish another lap with about 10 seconds to spare. Needless to say I wish I still had my champagne soaked Chenowth hat from that race.....and a photo of the looks on Cam's teams faces.

My favorite car of all time. The Chenowth factory Magnum DR1V. As a 12 year old we chased Mike to the class 1 victory at the 2 day 83 Baja 1000. Riding on the nerf bars through downtown Ensenada after the race and getting kicked out of my first bar are memories I will never forget.

The last car my Dad ever raced. He and Mike built and raced this car together. Mike continued to race it for years until his Factory Nissan stuff started. It was DR2 - Chassis #2. Bob Gordons "Betsy" is chassis #1

Thank you for sharing some Chenowth history! I hope others will do the same. If anyone has some stories of this car, please share!

I will Post more build pictures this weekend. The chassis is stripped and a ton of tabs and brackets were cut off that won’t be reused. There was almost enough metal dust on the shop floor to make a run to the recycler. The chassis will now go to the sand blaster. It will be painted with Steelit when it get back. The Porsche 915 5 speed is now at Rancho Transaxle and we are ordering a new gear set and ring and pinion from Albins’ US distributor.

The new trans being bigger made for a lot of new mounts, etc on the back of the car. In addition we are giving the rear a little TLC and more race friendly. At this point in time the plan is to test the new trans over Thanksgiving weekend and do some shock tuning. It’s been running soft as play car for 10 years and has been on 33’s.

Got to thank my brother, nephews, Dad and MME Marty for all the hard work. It has been a team effort so far and love how it’s turning out
