Coronavirus? What Events Next..

What A Joke
I am out for NORRA, the team I was going to go with has decided not to go as its just too much unknown at this point to risk it.

As far as NORRA if it was me running it I would wait another 2 weeks and see where we are at with everything. If in two weeks things are worse than they are now (Mexico's just testing now so numbers going to go up huge I believe) I would cancel/postpone the race at that time. I really feel its WORSE to try and make it work and at the last second like the week of the race be forced to cancel (like BITD and MORE). People right now will understand. Hell most people in CA cant even leave their houses after tomorrow!!! But like I said I think NORRA cant wait another couple weeks and see how its going before they need to make the call.

My worthless .02

So many unknowns. We decided to err on the side of caution. Several of us are in age risk group, several are self employed and quarantine would be devastating financially. I did cancel with NORRA a couple of days ago via email but haven't gotten any reply or confirmation. So if the show goes on there will be one more room open in BOLA! Gaucho Mark's Racing #66 Bronco.

So OC is now under a shelter in place order starting tomorrow....
Drove to OC this morning to pick up a few things from the house to take back to AZ. At 5pm, the 405 was running at 65 mph in BOTH directions. When that happens, you know something is going on that is keeping folks off the road.

Thank you Eliseo! Great dialogue here.

I think part of my hesitation in the "wait for a couple weeks" approach being proposed is that the NORRA refund policy states that there are no refunds after March 31. There's likely some reluctance to "wait". If people have to wait to make a decision, they are likely going to err on the side of caution that doesn't risk their registration fees.

Any comments on that deadline being extended due to these circumstances?

Also, what is the process if I need to cancel? Just send an email to you? Via the website?
Aaron forget about the March 31st deadline, we will credit the full entry to anyone that decides not to race with us in 2020. We have never been and will never be Greedy, we put this event with sweat and blood for you guys sometimes breaking even sometimes even loosing money. Don’t worry.

Norra is such a great group of people. They will be more than fair.

I mentioned how China is recovering a few days ago but it got blown off because it’s China. You guys need to check into the changing conditions there. If you don’t trust the Chinese government listen to American companies there like Starbucks who have re opened hundreds of stores there. Even Aljazeera ( I’m not a fan) reporting the same thing. They are lifting travel bans. The company I work for just got a shipment released out of the port in China yesterday. The Chinese are going back to work and that’s a fact. Restaurants are reopening. Hundreds of doctors air lifted into the worst areas there have returned home due to less pressure with fewer and fewer new cases. The worst is already over. It took a couple of months. It will take a couple of months to get better here too. Michael gonzales, the world is not gonna end, it’ll be ok. By mid summer this will dissipate and people will settle down. yes, it’s a bad virus. By next year we’ll have a vaccine. Bummer having races cancelled but cancelling the large group get togethers will obviously help slow the spread of it.

Unfortunately this will hurt a lot of business's, but lets all stick together here to help those in need. No matter if its food, spirit, or just someone to chat to when they are in isolation. We are a big (Argumentative) Dezert family. =)

I know since this hit, with the free time it created, ive been working on our race vehicle a lot. Currently doing a much needed rebuild to the shocks. Im expecting to see a lot of rebuilt race vehicles around V2R time. Put the free time to good use.

Also, not all business's will be hurt by this. Some will actually prosper. Companies that sell a lot online will see an increase in business (I know for one, here at Wild we are up 25% from before the virus hit).

I have no idea if history will judge what we are doing now favorably or not. The jury is still out on just how much wealth has been permanently sucked out of the economy and our own savings, and how that figure will stack up against the best guess at the number of lives saved. But we are also committed to doing this distancing things so if you're gonna do something, do it full bore not halfway, and get it done.

That said, this thing isn't the flu. Forget China, first of all you can't trust what news comes out of there and second there is no guarantee its not gonna flare back up again there. Look at Italy, if you haven't seen the numbers they are shocking. 10 days ago there were 230 dead. 5 days ago there were 1000 dead. Today there are 2500 dead. There have been over 350 deaths per day the last 3 days. If they are lucky it somewhat stabilizes at that rate. Adjusted for population size that would be the equivalent of nearly 2000 deaths per day in the US. If we are lucky it doesn't keep going up exponentially. This NONSENSE about it just being a bad cold or the flu needs to stop. When you get to that many sick people a day the system and the people working in it become completely overwhelmed and breaks down. They are literally deciding who gets the lifesaving ventilator by seeing who is the younger and therefor most likely to survive while letting the older person die because they don't have enough resources to treat them. These people don't have hospital beds or any equivalent place to be treated so they are in field and hallways and wherever the locals can find a place to put them. Already 8% of the medical staffs have contracted the virus. Oh, by the way guess what...they have had the flu in Italy before. All kinds of flu and colds and such and no, they didn't get overwhelmed like this or even close to it. It simply isn't the same thing no matter how much anyone here has made up their mind about it.

Flattening this curve by distancing seems to be an effective way to keep the rate in check to the point where the sick can be treated and supplies generated and brought in and cures developed. That much I am convinced of. What still isn't clear, as I said in the beginning, is if history will show that the unprecedented measures being taken to accomplish this were the right call. Historians and economists and doctors will be studying this event many years after all of us are pushing up daisies.

In the meantime I plan on banding together (from a distance, if that makes sense) with as many of my friends, neighbors and fellow Americans as possible and make the absolute best out of this situation that we can.

Update to the 2500 dead number in Italy. One more day and the toll has gone up by 475 to almost 3000.

Its probably impossible, but from what i read, if everyone in the country just isolated themselves for 14 days, this would be done....over.

Zambo, that wealth didn't get sucked into no where, someone else got it. People that shorted the market got rich. People who invested in certain biopharm stocks got rich. The money changed hands, it didn't disappear. I have said this before and I will say it again, the stock market should not be the place to keep your families wealth and fortune unless you are an old family living off 4 generations ago money. Otherwise, the market is set up to siphon off those moneys set aside by folks wishing to retire some day about every 10 years.

You live in a dream world. If some liberal turned your argument around and opined that every dollar a rich guy has means another dollar that a poor guy doesn’t have, you would immediately attack the premise. Wealth isn’t energy. It can be created and it can certainly be destroyed. If I blow up a factory, that isn’t wealth changing hands. It’s just a thing that used to exist that doesn’t exist any more. Wake TF up.

Money is a tricky thing.. its more the speed of money that matters, for example I get a pay check every 2 weeks like 70/80% of this country, that pay check is merely $ moving from vendors to my boss to me then to other vendors like mortgage companies, grocery stores etc... suppose that paycheck doesn't come, I use savings(loss of wealth mentioned above) The FED immediately drop rates to 0 should be a sign...
