Crandon Feedback for Track

Had another awesome Labor Day weekend at Crandon last week. Thought I'd give some feedback and see if anyone else who was there had anything to add.

Pros:

1. New grandstands, beer stand and food stand were great.
2. Continued unquestionable best atmosphere in Short Course supported by hundreds of volunteers (who I thank as frequently as possible during the weekend).
3. Pretty good racing between East and West teams
4. Overall well run
5. The VIP camping flag was a nice touch.

Cons:
1. Need more security in campsite. Didn't see a single cop and rarely a security person go past our campsite until Sunday night. We had some things stolen from our campsite a couple of years ago and two coolers stolen Saturday night this year (actually early Sunday morning) between 2am and 5:30am. We camp near the camper entrance but the drunks walking back from the band to Jurassic Park walk past (and often through) our campsite apparently like stealing things. We'll be locking up next year but some increase in security would be nice to see.
2. Need more bathrooms by grandstands (I see on this forum that some are planned under original grand stands). Seems like there were twice as many porta-potties by the grand stands 2 years ago. Also porta-potties in the camp ground were not maintained frequently enough (full and stinky)
3. Need gravel behind grandstands - constant mud after rain - people put flattened cardboard boxes on the mud by the entrance.
4. Consider adding gravel and some basic benchs under the grandstands for folks to get some shade during sunny days without standing or sitting in sand. Not sure how big of bathrooms are planned for under the stands but some seating in the shade would be great... covered grandstands would be the bomb.
5. Wasn't an issue for us because we camped until Monday but heard a lot of complaining about lack of parking and traffic challenges when leaving on Sunday. Looked like traffic was backed up all the way into Crandon on Sunday with people trying to get it. Buy the abandoned go kart track next to the current parking lot.
6. Rethink the dump truck rides for the "Gold Package"... especially for Fall there are probably 5x more tickets given out than could reasonably ride on the truck in a given weekend given how little it actually runs and how long the lines are to get on. Give a cash discount for gold package camping instead of the truck tickets (or allow each ticket to also be good for $5 worth of food or drink)
7. Not sure if it was waiting for "live streaming" time or what but the 15-20 "last minute" wait before Sunday's Cup race got old. The wave, YMCA, and Sweet Caroline only make the wait more painful.
8. Iron out the sound system, 4 years ago it was too loud and now it's often tough to hear the announcer, music was quiet and the feedback during the rendition of "America The Beautiful" made me cringe.

Thanks again for a great experience - it keeps getting better. Hopefully you find value in some of the suggestions listed above.

This wasn't the track or USAC, it was the Redbull TV trailer. Their generator crapped out right before the start of the cup race and the backup system didn't work right so they had to get it fixed.

I agree with the security issue. The track needs to a better job.
Also can you please water the roads in the campground down. The dust gets really bad during dry weather (unlike Saturday)
Please pave the area near the small walkthrough gate by the Redbull tent anytime it rains that area is a mess.

Good comments so far. We had a great time this year as well. After the cup Sunday the gate to 'day parking' was insanely backed up. People were crawling under fences and some climbing over. There was a large gate right next to the ticket booth that would have made the whole process very smooth and easy had it been opened when Bryce reached the podium. Grandstands look great, food and beverage stand improvements are great.

They need to have a proper in and out in to the spectator daily parking area or a large gate to open at end of day. New bathrooms would be super as well. Another solid year though and awesome improvements! Keep it coming Crandon

To all,

Thanks for your support, insight and suggestions for making the Crandon Experience better for our fans. Our primary objective to support the Crandon board of directors and 2017 Hall of Famer Cliff Flannery was to shore up and expand the corporate partnerships, push the PR and social media effort to a truly professional level and get the World Cup project from concept to reality.

Cliff and the incredible people of Crandon got the new grandstand/food and bar complex completed for 2017 thanks in part to the support of Vision Wheel.

We have some work to do to prepare for our 2018 races -- many of which all of you have listed. Stay tuned for updates as we prepare for our 49th season next year.

Cheers, Marty Fiolka
