    Keep it cool
In this stage, car drivers will enjoy the dunes of San Juan at the start of their day… but will also have to cross an area of fesh-fesh, which will put their nerves to the test. Those familiar with the tracks of the Argentinian round of the WRC will then find the terrain to their taste, but there is still more to be lost than gained at this point. Throughout the history of the Dakar, many a competitor has been known to let the title slip through their fingers the day before the finish!

Stéphane Peterhansel has had an accident after 78 km of the special! The Frenchman’s Peugeot seems to be in a delicate state, forcing him to wait for help before resuming racing. This could see his hopes of a podium finish on the Dakar disappear!

    1. 11:13 Ten Brinke is holding strong
Bernhard ten Brinke is enjoying an excellent end to this year’s Dakar. The Dutchman still leads the special after 97 km, with a lead of 1’05’’ over Giniel de Villiers and 2’49’’ over Nasser Al-Attiyah, who is pushing hard. Carlos Sainz now lies 8 minutes behind the stage leader.

    “BRABEC IN DIFFICULTY!

Ricky Brabec was fourth at WP1, 1’10’’ behind Antoine Meo, but has been at a standstill for several minutes a few kilometres further on due to a technical problem. It is thought that the engine of his Honda has blown and maybe even caught fire!”

    !!!!
That would make 2 significant mistakes for him in this race. He is the one I would guess would be the least likely to make any mistakes.

"Technical problem" is French for blown engine and on fire.

    1. 12:09 Brabec exits the rally!
Stuck at the 52 km point on the special for the last four hours, Ricky Brabec has eventually decided to give up. The official HRC rider has not been able to repair his Honda, which had caught fire.

12:16 Sainz is secure, Peterhansel is in trouble

What a contrasting start to the day in the Peugeot team: Carlos Sainz, the general standings leader, is in control for the moment with 10 minute deficit to Bernard ten Brinke at the end of the first part of the special, whereas his team-mate Stéphane Peterhansel continues to lose time and now trails the stage leader by 57 minutes!

Nail biting end to the Dakar! Saw a clip where Peugeot were talking about ‘controlling ‘ Nasser. How awesome is it to have a works team concerned about another competitor!
