Sainz and Al-attiya losing big time in that last section...9 through WP3 and Sainz has lost 22 minutes on Peterhansel!! And Al-Jazeera has lost 15! That brings them a lot closer to RG--if he hasn't pooped his own pants for a second day in a row.

Eurosport should have their interview show on at 12pm central time, 1pm Eastern, so I'll try finding a live stream of it and share the link if I do

Chabot was the first driver across the checkpoint at 11:54 am local time. Just a minute later, Stéphane Peterhansel romped to the top of the provisional classification, shaving two minutes off his fellow countryman's time. Lucio Álvarez is third on the course, but he's losing almost 12 minutes and therefore should slip down in the classification, as his physical position doesn't necessarily match his place in the ranking. A disappointment for the Qatar Red Bull buggies as Nasser Al-Attiyah comes in 13'30" down and Carlos Sainz loses almost 20 minutes.

Fantastic...can someone in the know give me a basic primer on Kurt's backgorund?
I don't make a claim to that "in the know" part, though I met KC several times. It was in the company of son-in-law, Andy G., but I know Kurt is on FB, Twitter, et al, and I'm certain if you do a search you'll find myriad info regarding AMA Hare and Hounds, WORCS, and other desert racing venues.

My guess would be navigation error by those in front because de Villiers is still up there and he has a great navigator

Any news on Muggleton? He doesn't even show to have started?

In my opinion for what it is worth the tracking is worse than ever. One would think after all these years of running the event they would have it down pat.

Often the road book points you straight at a massive dune. You need to chose between crossing it and driving around it. Apparently km75 of the special has been causing this type of problem for the bikes as well. Maybe the 2wd had problems. If Robby gets a clean run through there it will help his cause...

Dunno, his FB page has been updating frequently and hasn't mentioned anything, just that he was ready to go today...on a side note the standings are showing a "new" american in the bikes a "Baluestagi"??? I don't remember seeing him mentioned before...another Dakar site glitch?

Per the times at WP3, Robby -47:04, doesn't look like that happened.
