11:09 Peterhansel collides with a biker
Stéphane Peterhansel has collided with the biker Simon Marcic after 83 km. The Frenchman stopped for a long while to provide assistance to him whilst awaiting the medical team, before resuming the stage. He may well see the return of the time lost this evening.

Peterhansel had just regained the lead in the cars class from fellow Peugeot 3008 DKR racer Sébastien Loeb, with a very narrow margin between them. However, Peterhansel stopped on stage to ensure Marcic was brought to safety after the collision.

At least he stopped this time, last time he nudged a bike he kept on going after bumping the bike and ride off into the water at a river crossing...

I bet anything they will award Peterhensel his time back with no penalty. Any other racer would be penalized to the full extent up to DQ for hitting and injuring a motorcycle. It is not ok at Dakar under any circumstance.

The issue of catching the bikes is a greater one for Peterhansel than most other drivers because he is often the leader on the road and the first guy to catch the slower bikes. Just like at desert races like Vegas to Reno the bikes don't even know that they have been caught until they see the first four wheel vehicle.

Who has been penalized for hitting a motorcycle and stopping to help them in the past at the Dakar Rally?

I'd say SPH might being running close to the ragged edge to keep atop of Loeb. Sucks that he he someone but great to see there doesn't seem to be any team orders to back off at all.

14:42 Hirvonen collides with a truck
Having stopped after 195 km of the special, Mikko Hirvonen has broken his radiator following a collision with a truck, meaning any chances of winning the Dakar have disappeared for the Finn.

Looking like Brabec is in trouble again. At the last WP he passed, he was in between Goncalves and Svitko in actual road position. They finished the stage a long time ago.
