This stage should be exciting, including the mass start!!

For the penultimate stage of the Dakar this year, the competitors will be tackling another loop in the region of Pisco, which is especially well endowed with dunes that have already caused plenty of damage, both in the ranks of the favourites and the amateurs. Now is not the time to crack, all the more so given that the mass start, by waves of 10 in the bike category and groups of 4 in the car race, will add a spectacular nuance to the battle that has been raging for 9 days…

Short moving up!!

Newsflashes - 16/01 06:11 [GMT -5] - Moto
SUNDERLAND AND BENAVIDES PENALISED

Sam Sunderland and Kevin Benavides, who finished yesterday's stage still in contention for the top step of the podium in Lima, have received a 1- and 3-hour penalty, respectively. The KTM rider is now ninth and the Honda rider fourteenth.

With Sunderland and Benavides now out of it with the penalties, its now really between Price and Quintanilla. Walkner and Van Beveren are both around 6 and 9 minutes back respectably but I think with todays stage and the mass starts its gonna be hard for either of them to make up ground on the other two.

Same goes with the cars, Loeb is 44 minutes back after WP1, with him starting in the land rush with Nasser, unless Nasser has a mechanical there now way he'll make up time. Today will be interesting!

One of the filmmakers put up a YouTube video of just in-car camera film... it looks like they cut new roads with bulldozers to get from racecourse to racecourse. All sand.. so gnarly..

And after WP4 all four, Price, Quint, Walkner and Van B are all staying with each other. Americas Brother Price just needs to hang with them all day.

Peterhansel is out!

"Drama in the car race on the eve of the finish in Lima. 13-time champion Stéphane Peterhansel, who started the stage in fourth place overall, is dropping out of the rally just 26 kilometres into the special after his co-driver David Castera hurt his back"

While the chances of him winning the rally were low, he was only 53 minutes back from Nasser, and only 6 minutes from Loeb and Roma.

I have been watching the NBC sports network coverage since the rally started. The first episodes had footage of Team Speed but for the last 4 episodes there has been absolutely no video coverage or interviews with any of the team members!

I'm sure it hard to get good footage when they are racing in the dark.

The first bikes should be at the finish pretty soon and Price is still in the lead pack. Only a minute separate Price and Quintanilla for the overall as of now so the finish will be interesting.

If tracking is correct looks like Price and Quintanilla crossed the line side by side so Price will start tomorrow with a one minute cushion.

Cars should be crossing the finish line in about an hour or so.
