Always an "iconic car" when it came across the desert back in those days...

Don't you mean 'IF' it came across the desert? I think it only finished 1 race ever.
I think you are right. Watched it sling a rear tire casing about 100 feet in the air near main pit at the Mint one year.

It did finally get a win at the Mint 400 with Rory Ward driving it. I have heard that the car scared the crap out of other drivers when they got passed by it.

Rory had to deal with the same issues that Mickey did, the car had cooling issues. As far as I know, Rory keeps the heat down by only driving the thing Half Fast. If that scared everyone else, imagine what it would do with Mickey driving it!

I was referring to Mickey driving it. Mickey would scream by so fast it surprised and scared other drivers but then they would pass Mickey latter when he broke it.

Kristian, I have never seen that photo. You need to start looking through your collection and find me everything you have on THIS car.....Kinda like what we did on the Toyota. Email me when you get the photo's gathered up racersonly@yahoo.com. Thanks for posting.

How about giving some more love to Jeeps from around 1980? Roger Mears Honcho, Don Adams and Ray Russels CJ7s. And two guys that always amazed me as I donated my entry fees to the prize money they won. The Robertson Brothers Baja bugs. No mention of Robby Gordon in the Hay Hauler yet.
