Only so many permits and so many racers to go around. Things are for sure diluted now

Have then contact the Barstow office. Barstow BLM allows more than 2 events in their district per year and should be able to help them handle all that 'extra' work they are afraid they can't do.

Barstow is like a 75 year old hooker still working it’s used up
why can’t they grade the trials and clean it up? They grade all of the Caliente area roads all the time.

Great question, but hard to compare a forest road being graded to an ohv area being graded. Plus People’s republic of California to Nevada

This isn’t a decision hat the local office gets to make. It’s part of the “master plan” for Lincoln County in its land use unfortunately- Lisa and the folks up there would approve and work events a bunch more often if it was within their ability. It takes votes and proposals and approvals at state and federal level. It is something I know The field office wants to review and try and make happen.

Hence the reason I said contact another office that does this on the regular. I understand not beating the same ground over and over all year long, but it sounds like there is an arbitrary county deal that only 2 motor vehicle events can occur in the county, and that seems unreasonable if they don't touch the same towns. Killing off the biggest economic source over an arbitrary decision that can be debunked is something I think the racers, the town, and the BLM can get behind.

The Caliente BLM is working diligently to have the Snore race happen in 2021 . The local governments and businesses have been in the BLM's ear about the economic result it would have on Caliente . The Snore race is the biggest event in Caliente with teams showing up the week before the race and as the owner on the Knotty Pine casino put it " the Snore race in my new years and super bowl all in one week" So I would expect an RMP revision

Good. Hate to see arbitrary choices harm good people. It seems common sense should prevail here.

But I am curious as to which one is actually calling this shot? The County or BLM. The BLM should not controlling what a county can do. BLM is regional(district) but the decision seems to be based on this county.

I can speak from experience the BLM will respond the the county commissioners , I have seen the cost recovery for a race drop over $15,000 after the BLM got a call from one county commissioner

Appreciate that and why I mentioned you guys on the BOR FB post of Allen's. Most of you don't follow BOR, but three weeks before our Wendover race, BLM has swapped our fixed fee permit for a cost recovery permit. What used to cost us $1,000 will likely be upwards of $15,000. I don't fault them for doing so even if the timing sucks, and it is BOR's responsibility to figure out how to make it work (or cancel the race), but it's just another tidbit of info that I think adds to the discussion. "Budget friendly" races like BOR's are likely becoming a thing of the past.

Well, not exactly fixed fee, but pretty minimal and with little variable costs, which makes it easy. Our permits are in NV, ID, and UT.

Entry fees are $600, plus a $25 annual membership or $15 for a single race. That's the total cost for a unlimited vehicle to race a BOR race. Fees go down from there. I'm guessing that's about to change.

Any consistency from the BLM in that district would be great.
