e-mail spam

Within 48 hours I received 148 e-mails that I did NOT ask for and 10 actual e-mails.

Sux. As liberal as I like to be...I hope that there will be laws against it soon, so legal action can be taken.

I am sure all of you guys(&gals) experience the same.

what amazes me isnt all the spam i get, but the content of it. penis enlargement, underage girls, callgirls, etc. you have to think that there are lots of kids getting the same junk mail, and that is even wronger. somehow these nuts have gotten my phone number, and i get calls everyday for debt consolidation, refinancing... things i dont have any need or want for. and if i did, id go find them myself. its way out of hand.

there are laws aginst it... the problem is that most of it comes for other countries... if you get spam from a company that is in the states ther is a goverment program that you are sopse to sent it to... but i cant rember the name of it

Klaus, we have SPAM nailed to where 99.% is caught and filtered.

I use a combination of .procmail, .ask and spamassasin

I was able to recover my email address of "pjc@off-road.com" which has been a public address on our site since 1995 which puts it on probably every spam list on the planet.

The emails, the phone calls, all are suppose to be illegal or end(like the no call lists that start in September) but now they are getting around that by setting up their boiler room telemarketing places in the Phillipines. U.S. Laws won't apply to Int'l calls and they can do it cheap enough now that they will still make money.

Web based email URLs seem to be a spam magnet. On a web site I use, I had to change the contact email from a clickey to a cut and paste because of so much spam.

I am lucky enough (knock on wood) to not recieve the damn porno spam. I do however keep getting tons from this damn septic tank place. They change the email address it is send from every day so I can't block it. I don't get it at all - NO ONE out here has septic tanks - WTF?
Also - I get tons about weight loss. All the miracle diet, we can make you thin. Anybody else getting these? Steve

I get tons of penis enlargement and diet spam emails. I thought "damn these people must be following me". Good to know everyone is getting them.

The worst thing is when your girlfriend is right behind you checking your email and all that spam with girls names come up. She did not believe me about spam till she got her own email account. I get things from porn to mortgages !

Believe it or not on my Compuserve account I get ZERO spam e-mails. They must run some type of really good filter or something.

A lot of the "weird" e-mails that seem to have no point are just a test for the companies that sell e-mail addresses to the spammers. All they do is write a code in the e-mail they send that loads a GIF and if the GIF is called from the server (with the unique code) they know you viewed it and that the e-mail address is current and that it works. I think the porn guys/gals pay around $500 bucks for every 100,000 good e-mail addresses.

Like PJC said... some of the software out there really works and can save someone with a bad spam problem hours every week by automatically junking the crap mail.

I just saw somewhere in the last few days that 50% or more of ALL emails worldwide are officially now spam and that many different agencies are working on a way to stop it.

What I do to get rid of a lot of it is to go into Outlook's "message rules" under the tools tab, and click mail rules, then make a rule that when the subject line or body contains "viagra, free vacation, penis, enlargement, lower rates, etc.....", to DELETE it. The more keywords you put in the better it will work.
This way most of the spam will go to your delete folder and you can check it once a week or so and delete it. Also, every time I got spam for about 6 months now, I added them to my "blocked senders list" in Outlook. This helps a little but a lot of these a-holes use fake addresses so most of them are different every time.

I come back from a race and I'll have over 150 junk e-mails in my hotmail account. I have my internet through Cox and in my cox account I get ZERO spam. It's kind of weird but I'm not complaining a bit.

yahoos bulk mail (anti spam) feature works good, alot better than before. It seems to catch about +95% of spam now. I have an earthlink account that I have NEVER used once, nor listed it anywhere, and it is full of junk mail to the point of filling the box. So they must sell out your email addy.

just recently i have been getting this messenger pop ups and they tell me to go to a certain website and download somthing to stop it. yeah like i'am going to go there and download somthing i dont even know what it is. i hear theres places you can download pop up blockers anyone know where i can cause i'am tired of it.
