My name is Ron and I run a number of Baja themed websites and Facebook pages / groups under the Talk Baja brand. Have lived here in Mexico for over 20 years and the last 15 in a small, off-grid fishing village outside of San Quintin called La Chorera, fronting San Martin Island.

I have followed this forum for many years and consider it one of the best in Baja off-road racing topics and will contribute from time to time when I have something appropriate to contribute...

Ron runs another great community called https://talkbaja.com

I just checked it out and looks awesome for all things Baja.
@Ron Gomez Hoff is your community associated with Baja Off-Road Racing or how do they feel in general about Gringos and Mexis driving around Baja ?

Thanks for the welcome Klaus. Yes, many of the members of our online community are directly involved with Baja racing including many present/former winners of SCORE and NORRA events. We have a lot of high profile members in our Facebook group (over 71K members) which seems to be the main hub for our community. As far as attitudes about racing in Baja, it's somewhat of a mixed bag with a lot of people (like me) who love and follow off-road racing with a small but quite vocal percentage who continue to beat the drum to severely restrict/ban the sport down here. I have tried to be a voice of reason in our community and continually remind prerunners to behave themselves and stay on the roads as much as possible down here, asking permission to pass through locked gates and leaving no trash. I am in direct contact with the leadership of several ejidos down here and they always send me photos everytime off-roaders perform donuts in their alfalfa patch, cut the locks off their gates or chase their cattle. It's sad to me as many of those same "ejidatarios" used to love the off-road community but tell me their attitudes have changed over the years as they see increasing incidents such as these occur.

I always remind them that it's a very small minority of off-roaders doing that crap but it's exactly why you are coming up on an increasing number of locked gates where there used to be few to none. Hopefully we can do a better job of getting the word out and curtailing this behaviour which will only lead to more restrictions.

Looking forward to participating here.

I forgot to add in my intro that I just acquired an old 1990 Ford F150 4x4 with a six inline 4.9L and a manual transmission that will be my new project this summer. Found it sitting parked behind a house down in El Rosario and talked them into selling it to me. It had sat there for awhile and had about an inch of dirt caked on the bed but when I put in a new battery it started up on the very first crank and I was actually able to drive it the 60 miles home out to La Chorera without a hitch. Getting the front lift fixed as we speak and will be going over the drive train next week. I'll leave the interior and paint job for last.

Thanks for the welcome Jon. You are the third person to recommend to me to switch it over and I am doing some research now on exactly how that can be accomplished. I actually bought that very same model truck brand new back in 1990 and loved that truck, using it mainly just to head up to our cabin in Sequoia on the weekends over the years. I made the very STUPID decision to trade it in on a 2003 6.0 L - hands down the WORST truck I have ever owned - and regretted it ever since. That inline 6 was like an Eveready battery - never gave me a bit of trouble. When I caught a glimpse of this one I knew I had to have it and over the course of a couple of hours, two six packs and a half a liter of tequila finally convinced them to sell it to me. I will post some pics as I go...
