In the book 1000 Miles To Glory it tells of Oldsmoblie Cutlass' built by the late Vic Hickey and raced by Jim Garner before the Banshee was built. I found some info on the Banshee but none on these Cutlass'. Does anyone have info on these?, pics, specs, etc?

Does anybody still race cars like these off road based on production autos?

What little I know…a few years ago I first saw the Cutlass while riding down main drive of Solvang, Ca, while riding block wheelies on my Webco. Thought it was strange that some high-school friends of my sister were driving this lifted Olds with open exhausts down main street. Like a ring to a pinion, us BMX’ers were drawn to the cool sounds that thing was a makin’. Imagine right through the middle of town, and no cops in site. Tourists were scrambling, but they did think it was cool because it was a “car”. The Cutlass, with James Garner at the wheel, also had Slick Gardner and Jack Mendenhall as drivers. So who was in the car that day? None other than Jack’s son and RaceDez’ Clogking himself!

Hey Clogking, u got some shots?

Can't wait to see it finished. I love looking at all the pics of the class 6 cars and I'm still amazed that cars were built to race off road. Are the a arms and springs Cutlass pieces or are they heavy duty truck parts or something else? Hope to make it to the Mint this year to see your work in person.

The front coils springs were custom, the upper and lower a arms were stock cutlass but were reinforced on the sides and bottom and they had custom ball joints, I left the a arms alone but i installed larger screw in cups to accecpt Heavy duty Howe ball joints, The race spindles were 3/4 ton truck units, i changed them to Speedway engnerring NASCAR style spindles and 4340 steel hubs with big brakes, The rear axle was a stock cutlass 12 bolt and that would not work for what iam doing so i bought a new 12 bolt chevelle housing and next week i will turn it into a full floating hub style axle with a 35 spline spool i wanted to keep a 12 bolt in it so when people look under the rear it looks looks a factory 12 bolt but with some cool stuff added, the shocks thyey used back in 1969 were junk so i had King Racing Shicks custom build me 8 new shocks that will work perfect on the car
