Video Gymkhana 2020: Travis Pastrana Takeover

More than a decade-long rivalry between friends and rally drivers Travis Pastrana and Ken Block has culminated in a passing of the torch. Travis Pastrana is trying his hand at his own Gymkhana film, shot and edited by the same crew that makes all the Gymkhana films: Hoonigan Media Machine. The 2020 edition of the series is shot in Travis’ hometown in an 862hp Subaru WRX STI.

The bar is so high these days that this video felt like white noise. Ramp to ramp over a boat... cool stunt. Runway scene with the RedBull aerobatic plane? Timing seemed too safe. A fun watch but TP on a dirt bike is probably more entertaining to my eye. I <3 me some Subaru but the constant exhaust popping and audio levels takes away from the visuals. On the upside the behind the scenes video is a solid 18 minutes of entertainment.

If you haven't seen The Grand Tour version with Jeremy Clarkson performing "Farmkhana" it's a good waste of time.

However I still liked the 360 spin over the ramp and its violent landing. And the flat out 140+ (m or k ph) jump.

The high speed jump was pretty gnarly I thought. The boat jump was "meh" for me but that high speed jump was the highlight in my book.

I liked his facial expressions, thought they were pretty funny.

The tandem donuts with the little Subaru looked like it took some serious choreography to pull off so that was cool. Also when he hung the whole rear tire off the dock that looked pretty sketchy.

Do you think that tire of the deck was planned or less so.

The placement of the cameras were either perfectly placed for that shot or it was planned, IMO. Either way, it was pretty cool, planned or not

That "smith grind" on the dock was cool AF. Had to be planned. Like Foxxer said- The camera angles are too good for it to have been by chance, or, it happened on a practice run and they went "Hey, we should do that and film it better".

I just watched this with my 4.5 year old who is currently infatuated with Need for Speed, thanks to his Uncle. He noticed the facial expressions too, and commented at one point “He is scared. Look at his face.”

No. Lazy grind the front truck grinds and the rear stays under the lip. I wanna say Willy Santos invented it. Or Daewon? I actually debated myself if this was a smith, a salad grind , or just a 5.0. I was considering the dock to be the wall and the water to be the deck.

Wall ride was at Primm and looked badass In person. I was there. But the Huseman double front flip overshadows all of it. Skateboarding with trucks is fun. Lol
