HOTEL ROOM RESELLERS AT NORRA, WHAT ABOUT IT ?

Hello all, Yesterday and Today the biggest problem racers have been reporting on emails, calls and text messages is AGAIN hotels are full for our rescheduled dates in October because some HOTEL RESELLER has booked all hotels or the majority of them in SAN FELIPE and LORETO basically the next smallest destinations room wise after Bahia de Los Angeles; ENSENADA, LA PAZ, AND CABO are not a problem.

This is very frustrating for all of us and also very discouraging to newcomers to our event because they just can´t find rooms for our overnight stops, that being said it is a problem for us as NORRA race promoters because it limits the number of entries we can get if a prospect racer tries to work out the logistics before registering to the event, if that prospect is discouraged he will simply choose another event to go.

NORRA in 2015 admitted JC Pacheco (BAJA VOYAGER) to offer additional CONCIERGE services to our racers like Safe Parking Spots in all Overnight Stops and regular Concierge service in exchange for a payment from racers, he did a good job and the response from teams was that they very well accepted his services.

For that reason, NORRA in 2016 hired and legally authorized thru a document Baja Voyager to negotiate in each destination a group rate, discount or comped 40 rooms for our staff in exchange for the business we were bringing to each destination, in exchange for that service NORRA committed to promoting Baja Voyager´s services thru our social media, website and all communication channels, we named his company NORRA PREFERRED, also we let him charge an extra fee for MEXICO VISAS and had him install a booth at REGISTRATION, he asked us to have the approval to book and sell houses in Bay of LA but promised not to mess with Hotels, all that to help our racers and yes to help us get 40 rooms in every destination our staff needed them; in the result of this his company grew exponentially in 2016 to the point he had a great business.

After the 2016 event, we began to get complains from race teams about Baja Voyager becoming greedy and conditioning customers to buy a whole package of services if they needed only one room, we noticed that he taking advantage of our approval JC Pacheco started to tell the Hotels he was NORRA and booked almost all the rooms in Loreto to the point that there was no availability for teams that did not want to hire his services, in other words, Baja Voyager monopolized the Hotel Rooms in Loreto forcing teams to buy 3 hotel nights in other different locations to be able to get one room they needed in Loreto, WE CREATED A MONSTER.

Immediately after getting those complains we asked JC Pacheco to quit doing that and reminded him the real reason why we got him on board which was to offer additional services and help our event to be better and safer, we encouraged him to release all rooms booked in excess for the 2017 event in Loreto in order to let our racers choose if they wanted additional services or not and still be able to book their rooms independently, that didn't happen.

For the 2017 event, we canceled all working relationship with Baja Voyager and issued a statement to all hotels letting them know that no one besides Mike Pearlman and Eliseo Garcia were approved to negotiate rooms for the Norra staff because at that point hotels were telling our racers that NORRA booked all the rooms and they were asking us for the rooms that we did not have.

Since then we have been trying to let all hotels know that NORRA is one thing and Baja Voyager another, actually there are a few hotels that do not work with them but there are also hotels that are still loyal to Baja Voyager because they feel it is better to have one guy to book the entire hotel and pay them than having to sell each room independently.

In 2018 and 2019 we noticed he has been sneaking into the Riviera Convention Center Patios during our events with a little Easy Up and selling Mexico Visas and also last minute hotels to our customers even when Mike and Me have told him he was not doing the right thing there.

Now for the 2020 event, we went to Book all hotels in Bay of LA to prevent teams from booking an entire hotel just for one team and we found out that RAQUEL Y LARRY HOTEL was fully booked by Baja Voyager and the owner just said JC is my friend and he brings business to me year-round, he offered to pay more than NORRA so that´s why he owns this hotel now.

Disappointing yes, embarrassing for NORRA yes, but we did want since the beginning to have better and additional services for our customers, we never thought about this company to become this greedy.

What to do for 2021, Should NORRA Book all San Felipe and all Loreto and sell rooms just like Bay of LA through registration?

How can we put a stop to this situation, and not only Baja Voyager is doing this, there are other persons and companies doing it, this is not illegal to do in Mexico and I personally think it all started very good with safe spots to park chase trucks, with transport services and concierge services, BUT where all this turns for the BAD is when that company takes advantage and books an entire town to force and monopolize hotel bookings.

WHAT SHOULD WE AS NORRA DO FOR 2021 ?

Sincerely
Eliseo Garcia

Maybe Norra should start doing it, at least we would have a familiar partner in obtaining rooms. Maybe even change the dates a little and not give them out until you get the hotels secured in the future races. I agree lets not support this guy.

I know this is an on-going and well-discussed topic and I can't speak for what's going on behind the scenes, I have no visibility to that so it wouldn't be appropriate.

The only thing I can add here is that my experience so far with NORRA and BV always been positive. I sincerely hope you two can sort this out so we can get to racing!

What would happen if, say, after someone screwed NORRA over and booked rooms based on the rumor they hear, that, oh, maybe the course doesn't go through BOLA and spends the night at Guerrero Negro instead? It seems NORRA may have enough pull, now to get some of these smaller towns to WANT to have NORRA overnight there, so some pull should be used by NORRA to prevent price gouging?

Respect to the RIGHTS of others is PEACE, if Hotel Resellers book a certain property for their customers is fine if they offer extra services like security parking lots, transport shuttles, etc is great, the problem starts when that Hotel Reseller becomes greedy and books 350 to 400 rooms in Loreto to monopolize the city and force our race teams to book not only one night they need in that destination but a whole package that has a 3-night minimum, I believe our teams have the right to chose where to stay and who to hire if they need additional services.

The day that BV stops doing this to us it will be the day that PEACE will return, that behavior is a total disrespect to our race teams and our event; if a company offends like that our effort does not deserve the right to be in it and now the latest attempt to buy Bay of LA rooms and getting Raquel and Larry from us send us a big message about how that company doesn't care about the event at all.

Agree with you but people in BOLA deserve to have our business, restaurants, gas stations, supermarkets, etc they just don´t deserve to be punished this way, we just need to make this Hotel Resellers stop booking an entire town and maybe just think about their own customers, they need to draw a line.

NORRA likely will have to get into the hotel booking and reselling business to take care of this issue. As stated above, NORRA and only NORRA sets the dates and with that knowledge is power. Power to keep the dates secret and book large blocks of rooms for racers before the aforementioned hotel room reseller can monopolize a town. Just like we all must have a tracker so now it is included in the entry fee...all racers have places for they and the crew to stay in each town (hotel rooms, houses or?). So while it would be tricky to include hotel rooms in the entry fee, rooms could be booked on the side via NORRA, by listing choices, price range and number of rooms/beds, etc. People wanting to book independently could still do so because NORRA wouldn't book entire towns with the exception of BofLA. My two centavos. BTW Eliseo, your new Raceco is bad azz!

The guy is nothing but a ticket scalper. He takes an event with known limited resources, scoops them all up, and then sells them for a profit without providing ANY redeeming value to the customer. He sucks. All this guy is doing is making the race more expensive for every single racer. F him and the horse he rode in on.

This is not happening only to them but to You and us due that You never consulted with local hotels if the new dates were available for the crowd attending this event; and further far considering NORRA more as a bussines than the happiest race in the earth which in his format have a limit of attendants. Unless You build 100 more rooms in Bay of LA and Loreto. or really WORK on options as the Year We came out with giving a tent and a sleeping bag tho the event attendants which had no place to stay.

Split the stops on to different villages would spread the crowd for better options.

This way everyone in this forum will consider You as sensitive event coordinator which his main concern is TO SERVE our visitors and event attendants not fighting on bring more attendants only to make more money with this event but looking for a pleasant and safe experience. Attendants would feel better if You start working for the event attendants benefit and not only Yours.

Make more money seems to be Your goal, NORRA is one of the events that We attend. What you show is the frustration You feel that We do not work for You but for the attendants. You can not fire us as You fired Rodo just because he asked to work in another projects and You Threathen him that if he work for someone else, he will never work for NORRA.

Same with others, which You fired after You enforced to smuggle our border with thousands of dollars in cash and tequila bottles for Your own benefit.

Beacuse We do not do what You want We are not Welcome, What a rule!

Negotiation that make NORRA save thousands of dollars including Bay of LA which did not reflect in the participants benefit giving them a better price but raising it. Also part of the agreement was that We will sponsor NORRA's staff with rooms in certain stops and giving NORRA net price and first choice before the attendants to pick the Hotels where NORRA staff must stay. Rooms that You never paid.

The housing choice was presented by us as an option due that You book all the hotels in Bahia de los Angeles assuming that one room is enough for a team crew. rooms that the price is upmarked for participants benefit?

Regardless of Your intention to make us look bad, denying us to be at the finish line in NORRA's designated area We saved a lot of participants which never recieved the room they paid previously to You; We gave them a safe place to stay.

Your arrogancy shows up again saying that We are giving the level of service just because of You which sound very funny Our good will is based on GOOD SERVICE AND COVER PARTICIPANTS NEEDS NOT ONLY IN NORRA BUT IN OTHER EVENTS AND GROUPS. We do not feel any angry because You have a nice race car; BUT WE KNOW, THE MONEY YOU MAKE DISHONESTLY RESELLING THE INSURANCE POLICY FOR ALMOST DOUBLE THE PRICE CAN MAKE YOU LOOK VERY PROSPEROUS, money that everyone knows no one can make moving poop or renting mobile toilets. Is this not a Monopoly?

It's an event promoter job to threathen services providers to do what you want and shut heir mouth or they will be not in NORRA anymore? I do not think so Eliseo.

The only monster in this scenario is Eliseo Garcia. No drama señor... Disregarding the origin of this incredible event and making attendants think that Your criteria and Your obsession to make money out of the real spirit of the vintage happiest race NORRA was is Your only relevant objective.

We clearly remenber You make us wait 7 months to be paid for rooms You asked us for in La Paz in Cabo but You never get resposible of previous accommodations You solicitated to us for the way back trip of NORRA staff for a quite few years in a row. Including the broken sliding door that some on broke by an accident in Guerrero Negro.

All Hotels now that even before You send Mike and Jen to stop in every Hotel saying that BajaVoyager do not exist anymore which We have no doubt is Your goal. As I mentioned, We do not work for NORRA or Eliseo Garcia, WE WORK FOR THIS EVENTS ATTENDANTS.

In 2018 and 2019 we noticed he has been sneaking into the Riviera Convention Center Patios during our events with a little Easy Up and selling Mexico Visas and also last minute hotels to our customers even when Mike and Me have told him he was not doing the right thing there.

And Your arrogancy never ends, We where able to help a lot of participants in oder to document their tourist Visas with the authorities instead of go back to the port of entry and give them written confirmations of their reservations. Again trying to make us look bad in front of Your own attendants We found a place where to be for them and help them out, another stike Eliseo.

For all the thread attendants, Raquel Y Larry hotel have only 6 rooms, and due to Eliseo's fault and poor knowledge now We only have 3 for the new scheduled event dates. Ruth is an honest person as she will not cancell her previous reservations just because You rescheduled the event and will not sell her honesty for more money. Not everyone is like You.

Disappointing yes, embarrassing for NORRA yes, but we did want since the beginning to have better and additional services for our customers, we never thought about this company to become this greedy.

EMBARRASING ITS TO BE RESELLING THE INSURANCE POLICIES AT DOUBLE OF THE REAL PRICE NOT BEEING YOUR BUSSINES, THREATENING AN HONEST SERVICE PROVIDER WITH THE ONLY CHIOCE TO DO WHAT YOU WANT OR REMOVE THEM FROM THE EVENT. HOW CAN YOU EXPLAIN THIS ELISEO GARCIA, Sadly, this is not the interest of Mr Pearlman or NORRA´s staff to make more money with this race but Your goal is clear, make money out of every single concept and service that attendants need. We will not sell our honesty to You and this is why We are not working with You but with the event attendants.

God bless everyone in this forum and please stay safe and stay at home until COVID 19 gets under control.

Interesting rebuttal. His english is much better than my spanish so his points are clear enough. As a norra racer and chaser here is what i see/ have done. Bola be glad to get a shower and rat what is available. 3 of 4 years i have slept in my truck, no big deal AFTER a shower. All other places just get your own place has been relatively simple. I do not like to use services like BV provides if i can avoid it.
My response to BV is. Norra puts on a killer race at the lowest cost per mile over the best dezert race course i will probably ever race. If they dont turn a profit the golden goose will die. Viva norra especially if you would just give me some gps tracks and eliminate the navigation test 😊🤡👍🏻

Thanks very much for your kind words, couldn't expect less from you, the main goal of this thread is to find a way to stop hotel resellers from monopolizing the rooms in a certain city and to prevent them from trying to book hotels in Bola to sell independently at a higher rate.

The Mexican 1000 has an average of 200 teams every year, some years more some years less, every team needs an average of 2 to 3 rooms in every destination, that means we need at least 600 rooms per night more or less, Loreto has an average of 700 rooms and San Felipe around that, that means we are fine, NORRA staff needs around 50 rooms now, and for BOLA we all really get packed in only 28 at Villa Vita, the problem starts when a Hotel Reseller books half or more of the rooms in a city and sells them only in packages of 3 nights minimum to a race team that doesn't need all those nights forcing them to buy something they do not need.

If Baja Voyager stops doing that I think the problem is solved, perhaps book only rooms based on your returning customers, I have no idea how many teams hired you last year but maybe at the end of the event ask them if they will be returning next year and book rooms for them plus maybe a 10 percent to grow but not 350 or 400 rooms, that seems excessive and greedy IMO.

We sincerely hope that you can reconsider and understand that every team has the right to chose where to stay and who to hire if they need additional services, they should not be forced to buy rooms from you just because you booked them all ahead of time, sometimes even before we as promoters do, last year we had to split our crews into 3 different hotels in La Paz because Baja Voyager rented the entire Marina Hotel that was our supposed headquarters, can you imagine our Rescue Teams, Checkpoint Crews and Officials scattered in La Paz and having to take Taxis early in the morning to be able to start the race in front of the Marina where they were supposed to be the night before just to wake up and walk to the start.

Hope you can really understand the situation and help us solve it.

Regards

The sad thing is there are actual legit services that racers need that a savvy businessman could actually perform that are beyond the scope of simply booking hotel rooms that anybody can do on booking.com. How about set up a big secure guarded lot in Cabo to store racecars and trailers that sometimes can't be parked at the condos and such people rent after the race. And maybe set up transportation services for those who want to ship their stuff back to the border. Things like that which many racers don't have the baja connections or experience to arrange. Give me a minute and I could probably think of a few more that would fall into an actual service rather than a scalping operation.

Exactly, Baja Voyager can do that pretty sure, that is exactly the main idea of this post, let's work together to solve a problem. Perhaps there is more money involved in these extra services than booking rooms.

BV does provide 24 hour secure parking for their clients in every town. I agree...that they could expand this service to people not booking rooms with them just to have a completely secure parking and place to prep the cars. Seems like a win...win.

Hello all, a lot of you might know me but for the ones that don´t let me introduce, I am Miguel Rico the insurance guy I am the one you see at hospital if you need medical assistance; ANA Seguros Mexico and Instant Mexico Auto Insurance are the companies that sell the Insurance coverage to race teams, we have been working for more than 10 years, during that time Mike and Eliseo have invested a lot of time and money in making this a safer event in every edition learning a lot from mistakes sometimes but now they have a safety class to help reduce risk, better tracking equipment, sweep and recovery crews, medical staff and rescue in strategic locations, rescue helicopter with paramedic on board and also getting the insurance coverage higher for the benefit of race teams, the Insurance cost included on the entry fee you pay at registration has not gone up in a few years and they always hate raising entry fees, what JC Baja Voyager is mentioning is totally false and damaging to us all, we sincerely hope this situation stops in future events, JC Baja Voyager you should contact Norra and sort this out and find a solution in favor of all the teams not only your customers, last year we were also victims of this in La Paz where all the staff couldn’t stay at the Headquarters and had to drive to the start in front of the Marina Hotel because you booked all the hotel for you, that´s no good for the race.
