Does anyone who races own a car wash in Vegas/Henderson?And this is why I volunteered 30+ hours of my time to this event without thinking twice. The real racers and people out having fun appreciate it. Not just at home talking trash from their phones while also tuning into the same live coverage about the event they despise so much. I had a good time/ from tech inspection, to both race days. Thank you offroad family for the love and support!
Any details on the rumors that a lot of Moto guy failed tech?- Tech inspection... I won't get specific, but when things are OK/legal for SCORE, SNORE, MORE, NORRA, VORRA, Record, and CODE, you'd think it's also OK at Mint. And I wasn't the only one with similar issues
that was ol 10shot. He complains about everything. In the end Jen DNF the vintage race 35 miles shy with a broken hub bearing.
On Saturday we really needed to finish after some not-so-good results this year, and we did with 5th class 10 (also known as 4th looser). That felt good.
And whoever said class 10 was sad (or whatever it was) at this Mint, I think there were 10 10's that started, Chase Warren was flat gone, so enter next time and so how you do in such a sad class...
I don't know anything about this specific situation, but man that's rough. I know rules are rules, esp. when safety, liability, insurance, etc. are involved. But DQing someone (if that's what happened) for something that's not a performance advantage is a total bummer.

Wow, really? No clue. It's impossible to fail Tech with a moto. But, given what I saw at this Mint Tech, makes sense ;-)
It was helmets. I'm not aware of any other moto related issues with tech. We did have a lot of issues with helmets though. In fairness, our rule book does state that helmets need to be SNELL certified. Its the very first item listed in the technical rule book:I am curious if the old cert helmets were legal for cars or nah. Tim?
Understood on camping. In a perfect world Primm and the rest of the world would be back to "normal" by March but frankly I'm not sure Buffalo Bill's is ever coming back. I thought I saw Terrible's was planning on reopening in early 2022 but not for sure. Obviously accommodations in Primm are important and there is room to improve to sort that out.Bajabound, I agree with your assessment. overall it was really well done.
JPrich did great to get feedback from last year and make it happen. Much improvement.
Lots of great stuff and overall we had a blast. We would do it again for sure, good experience.
Only a few things we can nit pick about.
Really need camping in the pits. it was really hard to split our camp and set up two places. Had our crew back and forth and it was stressful. I think thats an easy fix and Jprich has already worked on how to improve that.
Qualifying was great except two issues. First problem was after the sight lap two Brenthel trucks showed up late. They let them go on their own and they basically got a hot practice lap while the other trucks followed in line at 10mph. that was a major no no. Show up late you don't get the sight lap. I went out and told Killian that wasn't OK and they said the drivers said they would go slow. Right after we looked and they were full speed. Don't ever trust a race driver when they say they will go slow. LOL They should have given them an escort or sent them packing. Then Sam Berri showed up and they didn't let him go at all.
Then while in staging they let Cassie Curry crew change tire pressure and remove the spare after the sight lap. But they told everyone else they cant work on their cars while in staging. I wanted to also change tire pressure once we knew there were no rocks. But nope. Need a race director there to set expectations and enforce rules.
Commentators were not good at all in my opinion. They did nothing more than call what they saw on the screen, with no knowledge. They knew nothing about the race. Didnt even know Jesse James rolled early and was out or what happened to Concrete. They had no idea about any of the classes or what was going on. That was painful. And they really dont know much about racing now. Maybe they are legends with great experience but overall they are clueless about racing today and who is who. They added almost zero value. the live feed with no sound would have been just as good.
I texted Matt Martelli that I think they need a class rep that feeds info to the commentators so they have a clue. We knew 100x more about what was going on in the race than they did. I am sure a class rep could find out who is starting and who is in the truck. Easy to get that info ahead of the race. Heck they could walk the grid and ask the teams. the commentators didn't even know where anyone was pitting and when they pitted. Maybe a person at each pit to feed info would be good.
Motorsports Safety team absolutely killed it. We were stoped in a really bad spot and I think we got towed in less than 5 minutes. Thats amazing.
Lots of great things about the event and every person we dealt with was amazing and positive. A big improvement over last year for sure.
It would be cool if the required helmets were in stock from the suppliers. I would love to have some to sell.It was helmets. I'm not aware of any other moto related issues with tech. We did have a lot of issues with helmets though. In fairness, our rule book does state that helmets need to be SNELL certified. Its the very first item listed in the technical rule book:
Helmets used in four-wheel vehicles must meet the following requirements; Snell memorial foundation, SAH2015, SA2015, or SA2020 with a legible Snell sticker attached, FIA Standard 8860-2004, 8860-2018, 8860-2018-ABP, 8860-2010, and 8859-2015 with a legible with a legible FIA sticker attached. Motorcycle and ATV’s must meet the following requirements; Snell memorial foundation, M2015, M2020D, or M2020R with a legible Snell sticker attached, FIA Standard 8860-2004, 8860-2018, 8860-2018-ABP, 8860-2010, and 8859-2015 with a legible FIA sticker attached. Youth rider/driver may use SNELL/FIA CM2016. M400 recommends each helmet be labeled (painted) with the driver/rider’s name, blood type, allergies, or any other medical information. Left hand side of the helmet must be free of all stickers. Straps must have “D” rings, no snaps or Velcro. As of January 2021, SAH2010, SA2010, FIA 8860-2004 and M2010 helmets will no longer be allowed.
My understanding is other orgs that most of these moto guys race in don't require that, and they probably didn't look too deeply in to our rule book before signing up, so there was some gruff at tech when Bill said they couldn't race unless they had SNELL certified helmets. Not a "huge" issue IMO. I understand why the moto guys might have missed that and been upset, and I also understand why Bill enforced that rule.
I haven't sold a helmet in like forever. I cant rightfully sell a dude a helmet that will be outside of legal in a year. The boss sends me out to keep racing easy for racers, not fleece them. The helmet rules as they exist today are dumb. There is not enough supply to satisfy the requirement. I feel like there is a disconnect here on this.Yeah if we anticipated that issue, you definitely could have sold a lot of moto helmets Thursday, lol.

Well, Im on hour 7 of pressure washing my truck, silt, rocks, a few well placed branches and huge pile of recovery gear to clean. Any of you who broke in the RM 44-48 area are gonna get a special Xmas gift.Does anyone who races own a car wash in Vegas/Henderson?
If I owned a car was I'd sponsor all the course worker volunteer crews who's trucks are a disaster after every race ;-)
Out of curiosity. Was there anything in your size that wasn't carbon fiber.?I had to purchase a helmet in Tech, it sorta sucked, but it forced me to get the Carbon Fiber Impact helmet I'd been wanting. One of our other drivers had to buy a helmet as well.
Both of ours were SNELL 2010.
