Misconceptions by uninformed people

Well since the thread that started innocently about "what a Flatbiller is", is now locked I wanted to make one statement in Tony Tellier's (and the rest of the CheeZers') defense. Tony has been helping me with the articles for the MDR races all year long. If he didn't help me you would get no write up at all. You should be THANKING him and kissing his a$$, but you guys aren't that smart. Tony will not be doing the MDR write ups this year, I will. So remember, it isn't nice to piss off the press, and in fact quite stupid. The write up for the last MDR race of 2003 didn't make this issue of Dusty Times because the typesetter was in surgery; so when you see the title "Flatbillers Fly at Stoddard" don't get your panties in a wad! And Greg feel free to send me the forwarded cheese mail that you have with the evidence of what was (allegedly) said. Adios Amigos! Happy 2004!

I'm sure you post will be deleted too, Sheryl. Like Martin's and Thom.
And dont forget who is going to write the MORE race articles...

and for some reason you felt like posting more trash talking on the internet because you thought it would help the situation? smart.

Jordan, I fail to see where Sheryl is talking trash. Others have for sure.

A question was raised by Greg and now because people are getting their panties in a wad and not thinking & responding rationally we are not being given the opportunity to resolve it. One poster here did send me the email in question. I am not convinced those were Tony T's words, even though it would appear to be so. We all know how easy it is to edit a fwd'd email.

I notice my posting was removed. I have not changed, so something has. I reserve the right to speak out when I feel, right or wrong, that doing so serves the greater good. As a rational person I try to only speak out in these circumstances, and not just when I feel that I've been slighted. As a human I sometimes fail at this, as we all do. The important thing is to observe that such a failure by another is a mere blip on the screen and move on, rather than responding to it in an inflamatory manner.

What A Joke
Some of the postings were removed but would have been moved into this thread if we could. We don't need 3 new threads all complaning or talking about a thread that has been locked. One thread is enough.

Actually, all this arguing should end.

1) Division in our ranks is pointless in relation to the big picture of the community.
2) Kids are "kids". Every generation has their gimmick and style. Generations or age groups pervious almost always have problems with the style gimmicks of those younger.
3) Kids are "kids" and therefore miss a few clues on responsibility. It the job of the older folks in the community to present clues and once in awhile force clues upon the kids.
4) Kids grow up to be adults and by an large become good citizens and in this case, Desert Racers or supporters of same.

This is pretty logical thinking, eh?

If not completely, then certainly alienating these kids away from the sport they admire is no less 100% illogical.

Lastly about the "don't piss off the press" comment. Sheryl, no direct offense intended but, "pissing off the press" or "pissing on the press" is an American way. When behind the pen, it is often hard to take. If you waiver the result is a biased opinion that dellutes the end work.

No, it should not. It should, however, be free of name calling and impassioned responses. A good argument forces people to think about what's important to them. Without constructive arguing, you don't form the ability to think thru your stance and be able to defend it. Or find that what you thot was right, isn't.
A good argument allows you to test your thots & ideas against those of others. The first and MOST important rule is that you treat those you disagree with, with respect. It's OK to disagree, it's actually important to the community, state, and country that you disagree. It's not OK to slight, damage, or name-call those you do not agree with. This is an argument, not a war.
There are a lot of people here I don't agree with. I do see their reasons for thinking the way they do (most of the time), and I can appreciate that they've put some effort into what they think. That to me is as, if not more, important than what they actually think.

You might get a community-wide concensus, you will never get complete agreement. Without the ability to think thru a stance and form a defencible opinion you will get Lemmings.

In this media, how else would you go about doing this ?

Oh, and just so y'all know, you never 'win' an argument. You only win by graciously partaking in one.

Pat your mindless ramblings never cease to amaze me. No offense taken from you Pat, because from the day I met you till now you have never shown me a sign of intelligence; this post is no exception. Have a Happy New Year!

Sheryl, congrats... The "last word" is yours. May it stand as a complete illustration of whom you are.

CPA, that was an "intelligent" and mature comment (sarcasm intended). I like the inference of being careful of what you say because your pen is very mighty...nice threat...good for the sport.

i think its pretty lame to see a bunch of grown adults arguing over a stereotype. This all started cause a guy wanted to know what a "flatbiller" is. Now u guys are no better than those "flatbillers" arguing like a bunch of children over what each other say. Let it go, what was said was said. Get over it. U wont always agree on what everyone else says, but thats life, get used to it. Ive already figured that out and im only 17. I think its pretty childish to bring up this subject again too. The thread was locked, leave it be!!!

"debating" .... "constructive debating !!"

Sheryl Cannon (RacnCPA),
SHERYL THANK YOU FOR POSTING THAT, I really appreciate your post, honestly. We need more people like you in our sport and less of these posers who only [I have been warned] and complain about everything. It is pathetic what this board has become. Anybody with absolutely no experience or knowledge of the sport of off-road racing can post here and it doesn’t take much reading through the site to find that out. If I was not at all into Off-Road Racing and came to this site I would instantly be struck by the number of idiots who post here and just ramble on about pointless subjects or ideas that make no sense at all. Quite frankly I would not want anything to do with Off-Road if my only exposure was this board.

Thanks to John Bitting, Klause, Gabe, and the rest of the Race-Dezert crew who have made this a great place to communicate but no thanks to all the posers and fakes who are posting here because going and jumping there truck is the cool trend that everybody is doing right now, and at the same time have no respect or appreciation for the people who are the backbone of Off-Road Racing like Tony Tellier and the rest of the Cheezers along with the many other enthusiast. I am sure by posting this I am going to offend a lot of people but my point is that this has gone way to far and people need to just drop it. If people don’t have something that is intelligent, informal, an intellectual opinion, interesting or a good question to the general target audience of race-dezert then they need to NOT waste their time posting.

Example: A gentleman asked the question of what a flatbill was. It could have very easily been answered by getting everybody’s opinion of what a flatbill was; it didn’t need to become a war. Most importantly have some respect for people like Tony Tellier, the guy has been around the sport for a long time, and it is people like him who have made it possible for the progression of the sport to put it all the level where it is today. Remember, without the backbones of the sport there would be no such things as prerunner jump contests, off-road shows, race-dezert boards and many other things that make up the sport and the industry.

I doubt Sheryl, Greg, Tony, John, Fish and even myself has taken the time to get to know every person who we label as a flatbiller, whatever our reasons may be... so who are we to judge what kind of person they are under that hat or behind that Camburg shirt?

A Flatbiller may look like a complete A$$ to some, but they just may be a very nice person, and possibly a good friend. I think Sheryl Cannon is the perfect example of this. Now there is someone who makes some pretty dumb remarks, and wears some really outrageous clothing. Just as some look at a kid with a Flat Bill on their hat and say "Oh my God," and turn their noses up in disgust, I'm sure many have done the same to you before getting to know people like Sheryl. And who knows, after you meet those people, you still may turn your noses up in disgust, but atleast you know you're not a stereotyping jackhole!

And I hope you all know this is a post in humor... cuz i am laughing at every person who says "This thread needs to be killed" at the end of their two paragraph post. I love the internet.

Umm, Rhi, did you read my post? I was defending Tony Tellier, not commenting on what a Flatbiller is or is not. And after getting to know me what have you determined?

First- I want to apologize to those who took the movie quote I was trying to use in humor as a personal attack, it was not. It was an attempt to get everyone to look inward and see exactly what you are offering the sport and whether it contributes to the advancement or downfall of said sport.
With that said, I gotta say, many of you are hypocrites! How many times have Mullets been slammed on here? I am glad that some of you get it and can laugh at yourselves. Beamdream, fish, etc... You guys were having fun with it and I was laughing. To those who were offended by the "attack" against flatbillers, Skin too tight? If you are not able to admit there are those in your ranks who tarnish your name just like there are with any group with bad apples associated with it, then you will never cure the problem. If you do not understand the diversity associated with all offroad racers, then I guess I missed when the "club" was formed and never received an application.

This should be rated a 5 star thread because of the other issues it's raised. My major concern is why the Administrators/Moderators chose to close a thread and delete other posts. So much for free speech and "constructive" debating. A new thread comment can easily be moved to another thread, as evidenced by so many other internet boards. Deleting posts leans towards the senior management's agenda - just check out www.bajanomad.com and post something contrary to the Moderator's personal beliefs. Is that what happened here? I didn't see any excessive profanity, racial slurs (what is your favorite race), and child pornography attachments. Cutting off the ability to contribute a comment, whether you like it or not, is wrong.

Just wanted to lend my support to Tellier and give a loud HERE HERE to Matt Scarroni. BTW I saw you guys (SMD) jumping your Protruck at Gordons Well over Thanksgiving weekend and I noticed the coordination you guys used to ensure that you had a spotter in position before each and every launch. SMD is top notch in my book.
