My wife, Kathy, son, Eric and I were on the towers on 9/10, the day before. Fortunately, on 9/11 we were staying with friends in Connecticut and were not in the city when this disaster occurred. I remember spending the day glued to the TV thinking about the workers we had met the day before.
I know exactly where I was and what I was doing on that day.
I had retired from the Navy after 21 years of active service just a few months prior and was setting up to conduct a live fire missile test for the Navy. Had to cancel it out and was glued to the TV for the rest of the day. Our ship we use for the testing had to stay at sea for a week and was not allowed to enter port.
If the navy would have recalled me, I would have gone back in a heartbeat.
