Actually this board got created 3-23-01 and went public a couple of days later after testing.
18022 messages have been posted together in all of its public and private boards.
923 registered users (some of those have signed up once and never actually logged in -so the real world number of users is less).
4169 Private messages are still in the system today. Those are the ones that you don't erase after reading. An unknown amount have been sent total.
For those that don't know. The previous message board was a linear type guestbook without any membership requirement and no censoring. It was part of rdc from day one. The idea behind it was to give you an opportunity to speak your mind in an anonymous fashion. Unfortunaly it got abused too much. We still stood behind our policy and never modified its content despite peoples requests.
Actually I had to modify it once after someone uploaded a dictionary file and flooded the board.
It was a tough call on our end to switch to an entirely new system that requires you to sign up as a member and on top of it we moderate it.
Its working thanks to your contribution.
What's next ?
We have our eyes on a slightly more sophisticated message board that does all what the current one does plus some more. It has one new feature that would allow us to network into other message boards and therefore create even more content. Right now on a good day we have 150 posts in a 24hour period. With the new system 10 fold that.... ;-) It's on the drawing board among with some other goodies.
