What's up Race-Dezert! My Team, Mason Off Road, and I are excited to head down to Ensenada tomorrow and get ready to take on our first NORRA Mexican 1000. My dad, Dave Mason Sr. and I have been racing SCORE together for quite some time and we look forward to taking on this different style of rally race. We bought a Class 1 car last year and took it to the Baja 1000 where we took 5th in class. Since then our crew has made major changes to the rear suspension on the car to add more wheel travel, plus bump stops. We feel it will be a big improvement.

It looks like we will have a great turnout in the Unlimited Buggy class at the NORRA, and we are glad to be a part of honoring the past at this awesome event. One thing we will be doing is posting daily updates on my website masonoffroad.com, plus social media, and this thread to help people follow along with the rally. We have a full-time media guy going along with us so each night we will post photos, action videos, and written updates for our team as well as interviews with other competitors to let them tell their awesome stories!

We are through tech and contingency and finishing up final preparations! Can’t wait to get this thing kicked off tomorrow morning.

Hey guys quick update from Days 1 and 2! Yesterday we had a clean run but lost 30 minutes due to a bottleneck. Once we got past we stayed there to pull the guy out (truck 811) so they could continue their race. We are hoping to a time adjustment there.

Today we started 20th on the road and had a great and fast couple of stages. It looks like unofficially 1st overall! Martin Christensen drove the first special stage and was 3rd there, passing 5 cars. I got in with my codriver for the day, Rob Schultz, and we had no downtime or issues. We finished 5th on the road and made up lots of time! Looking forward to heading to Loreto tomorrow.

Congrats on the fastest times yesterday, you earned first off the line this morning on the longest day. Two great high speed stages today. Baja at its finest, let that beast eat!

Day 3 of 5 Race Report from Loreto: 🏁 I started first on the road with a fast pack of cars behind me. The terrain was epic! I have driven and ridden a lot in northern Baja but it was awesome to get some seat time farther down.
We started right in front of Bryce Menzies in the AWD TT and knew he would be bringing the heat. My codriver and I focused on running smooth and minimizing mistakes. About 80 miles into the first special stage we started having some serious brake issues which we had to manage with sections over 120 mph through narrow roads with huge cactus on each side. Despite the brake problems Bryce was the only one who beat us so we still came in 2nd overall and 1st in class for stage 1!!

Martin took over the car for the second stage and our crew was able to improve on the brakes. He was running strong until an alternator failure caused us to lose about 12 minutes when they had to stop and change it. He brought her home clean and fast but we losing that time hurt a bit. Good news is the car is in good shape and ready for tomorrow! At this point unofficially we are 4th overall and 2nd in class.
