These folks are being persecuted because they want to build a home on property they own, but the environazis and the Marxist/Socialist cabal have whored out the ESA to take control of people's private property. And Joshua Trees are not really dying off. There are all over Southern California in the high deserts and mountain ranges From Tehachapi to the Nevada state line. The fire mentioned burned a tiny fraction of the land they live on, but use the number of acres rather than the percentage of the habitat to make it seem big. Remember this. Follks fighting these land battles said back in the 80s and 90s that the ESA had been distorted by folks seeking to destroy private property rights and determine what YOU, the private land owning citizen could do with your land... Or not do, like build a home on it.

I am wondering why the CA department of fish and wildlife has any jurisdiction over Joshua Trees?

Also not endangered in my yard . . . Growing everywhere.

I knew someone who built a place up in the Yucca Valley area, was told he had to have an arborist(?) come to look at the Joshua Tree's which were on the property and get approval/permits to have them moved, professionally before building. I was told they use satellite imagery of the property to tell if you've moved/dug up any without permits.

As far as the double standard, yeah I agree. There's some trails from Yucca Valley and Pioneer Town area that run up into Big bear we have taken a number of times over the years on bikes and Jeeps. These are Forest Service roads (aka fire roads) so they are maintained by the forest service. They come through, usually after a wet winter does some road damage, and blade them.... Joshua Trees piled up all over the place they bulldozed

The annual Hi Dez trash card just arrived. It allows you to bring tires, appliances, dead rodents, scrap metal, rotting food; up to 500lbs of anything, every week, for free. but specifically outlaws you from dropping off the Joshua tree of yours that fell over one night during the crazy winds up here, or even your dead cactus. Ca. Depppt. of Fish and Wildlife has NO JURISDICTION over plant life on State Lands, that would be Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. Specifically the resources side. The original take regulations that were written into the multi-agency land use plan for the Western Mohave and Eastern Mohave desert lands were to apply to commercial takes and large scale development. They were not to apply to single family residential per parcel build outs. This also applies to the reasons an EIR and NEPA are not required for individual home building. The Land Agency that is suppose to oversee this rule has become a patsy for the Wild Lands Conservancy and Trust. This was all hashed out during the Western and Eastern Mohave Plans done back in 2000-2002, but the plan has been put on hold by lawsuits filed by the enviro groups. That is how they operate to take away individual rights because they don't like you racing off road. Figure it out. If you are as smart as you claim to be, you can do the research.

Sounds like they did it the right/legal way. Nice!
