OPERATION CLEAN DESERT III TO TAKE PLACE OCTOBER 19, 2002
Barstow, CA. – CORDR brings the off-road racing community together once again for the third straight year with Operation Clean Desert III, an effort to Clean Up the OHV open area in Stoddard Valley.
Operation Clean Desert, was born in 2000 when scores of desert racers, fans, sponsors and manufacturers saw the need to remove debris and refuse from the open OHV area in Stoddard. “Some people think dump their trash in the desert is okay. So the racing community decided that no matter whose trash it was, it needs to be removed in order to preserve the desert eco-system for all species, including humans that enjoy the area.” said Paige Donahoe, leader of the effort. “Through previous efforts it has been determined that the trash comes from the freeway, residents, construction sites and businesses. OHVers don’t travel 150 miles to dump their couch or refrigerator, it is definitely trash from the local area, but to help preserve the land we recreate on, we go ahead and pick it and take it to the dump 2 miles down the road.” Said Tim Lindsay, Disposal Coordinator for the effort.
This year the group will team up again with the Bureau of Land Management to not only pickup trash, but also to conduct course reconstruction and signing in specific areas.
The event is being held Saturday, October 19, 2002. It begins at 9:00am at the Stoddard Valley OHV area just off of I-15, south of Barstow. It will conclude around 5pm at the Slash X Café off of Barstow Road. Volunteers will receive a special commemorative T-shirt along with a free BBQ and entertainment at Slash X Cafe.
Through OCD III, CORDR continues its commitment to educate the racing community about the need for off-roaders to be stewards of the land to insure that everyone will continue to enjoy the wide open spaces of the Mojave Desert.
