I need some help figuring out this car. It has a mid engine Corvair, and VW swing axle. It was built in the late 70’s, In the Chicago area I believe. I have not scene this combination before. Thanks for your help.

The plate tells you- M for midengine. L for longback. Erc... Look in the Vintage section, there is a post in there that has all the specifics for the Chenowth tags. And in the 1970s, there were plenty of Chenowths built mid engine and some built for Corvairs. I would guess this car did not start out in Chitown.

My initial thought was the same regarding the “M”. But then I found something that means mild steel. It was built in the Chicago area. Phil’s Inc. was selling the frames, but I don’t know that it came from there. I looked through the vintage section, and couldn’t locate a good Chenowth model listing. There is not too much specific info out there. Surprising when you think of the amount of frames sold.

I think if you find the guy who used to build Chenowths out of his shop in Central Ca., he posted the Chenowth catalog info.

Or drive it to km 24 to Chenowth and ask Chenowth what it is . Have some drinks , stay in a nice room , play on the beach , hit the sf 250 race course but not too hard .
