For various reasons recorded at least one death during the most important sporting event in Ensenada. governmental entities that organize have it declared in the red, as the budget is insufficient and end up paying with money from the community The latest edition of the race off-road Baja 500, organized by the American company Score International in Ensenada, she left a three dead aliens six car accidents, one person injured, waste and environmental damage along the route. And although it seems that municipal government benefits from the competition venue, the fact is that with each run the City, through Proturismo ends in the red since 2011, with liabilities up to 150 thousand pesos that will end up paying money from the city. "The races are in bankruptcy Proturismo for years," one respondent criticized. Businesses like prostitution have also become an attraction for those who hold office; days before arriving at the port, from various entities in the country. The uncertainty factor was reflected in the edition 48, where a motorcyclist died of a heart attack and another heatstroke in San Felipe, while an American 8-year-old, identified as Zanders Hendricks, was hit by the Todd pilot "N" of 47 years old. Not the first time that tragedy looms in the most important sporting event port; in each edition dies at least one person related to the event for various reasons. The multinational has manipulated and threatened the authority with the ability to bring the celebration to Puerto Penasco, Sonora or to La Paz, Baja California Sur, whose governments have estimated profits, but they are insufficient. MILES testify DEATH At ten o'clock on Saturday June 4, the president of Score International, Roger Norman, he gave the go starting with the director of Public Safety, Francisco Javier Shields Galindo, Oscar Escobedo Carignan and other officials bouquet tourist. Thus came the first car driven by the famous Robby Gordon. Minutes later started the unit 75, which was piloted by Todd "N", which at the bridge of the First Street he turned to descend to the runway and formally start the competition, but in turn lost control, turning on the viewers. At the time of the incident the output of units was suspended. Municipal police and organizers charge of attending the accident were made. The boy's mother, Melissa Hendricks, was with his face bloodied and visible injuries on legs and arms. In shock, he asked for help from the officers and desperately begged them to tell if your child was alive: "My baby, my baby, save him. Why do you say that? "I respond that everything is fine, while the claim to not approach the body of the child, who at that time spectators tried to revive him. Minutes paramedics child's body to the hospital Velmar took, it was reported that he had been killed. All authorities expressed regret and opened an account through Score to make donations to the family. Until Thursday June 9 accumulated $ 115,000. TranSAS THE CITY One of the clauses of the contract for holding the Baja 500, warns that in each competition, Score give five inscriptions and three commercial spaces to the City of Ensenada to be assigned by the Secretary General of City Hall, in this case, Jesus Jaime Gonzalez Agúndez. ZETA questioned the spokesman Ernesto Rios and requested the list of the beneficiaries of these courtesies but refused to display the name of those who are exempt from paying tuition set in dollars. To participate in off-road race must pay a registration fee of 3 thousand 500 dollars, with minimal cash prizes of up to $ 5,000. Some of the vehicles, especially the type Trophy Truck, reach up to $ 800,000 with all navigation technology, engine sensors, tire and satellite map. BF Goodrich tires are manufactured especially for the event. The advantageous CONTRACT "Score behaves like a union because every time you add more clauses to the contract, but always for their benefit and their brokers," revealed a source. The last contract was made by Mayor Gilberto Hirata representative of the company, Roger Norman for the 2014-2016 season. Here, it is noted that Proturismo will take care of the promotion and assumes the obligation to pay the ejidatarios where vehicles are driving. You also agree to keep roads open and free of any obstacle that interferes with the proper conduct of the events for at least three weeks prior to pre-runs make, which must be conducted with respect speed limits. In addition to placing, with its own resources, ramps and stands for spectators, which was never placed. While Score only makes the proceedings before the Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) to step through the route. Although the obligation is to pay $ 42 per square meter to ejidatarios, they always ask for more, because they say, nothing pays the damage done by brokers, but also the fans before, during and after the fair. They have as conditioning agents of the Ministry of the Navy of Mexico, to take charge of security at startup. To Customs must guarantee crossings and internment of equipment and personnel participating in the races. RED NUMBERS PROTURISMO Organize a career out of road costs just over 1.2 million, not counting human resources security, cleaning and logistics. The Marketing Board, which controls the Trust for Tourism Promotion of Baja California, whose resources come from the 3 percent charge hoteliers guests per room, provides 500 thousand pesos to Proturismo. To this are added 105 dollars surrender to Score paramunicipal by each rider coming out of the goal, which are regularly between 230 and 280. They say that is insufficient. Off-road racing, CHAOS weeks before the celebration of the Baja 500, discontent grows among a sector of the population, alongside the excitement among fans. The closing of avenues and part of the Boulevard Costero during the contingency and mechanical overhaul, start, finish and awards, it becomes a traffic chaos. During that time motorists City encounter with runners on the streets, streams and even the annoying noise they make units in different exclusive neighborhoods of the city, where competitors rent luxury homes, or use the foreign owners to condition and test vehicles. The economic benefit that according to the Ministry of Tourism, is up to 2 million, is also in doubt because competitors bring their US fuel, plus food and drinks. At the end they have the Municipal, State and Federal Police to escort the best cars to the border, for that use up to 20 units of Public Safety. The expense for each team participating in the Rias is up to $ 25,000, including the registration of three thousand 500 dollars rent hotels or houses, restaurants and other services. OFF ROAD RULES modified on the economic situation of the paramunicipal, Amador Arteaga Sahagun, who a couple of months took office as chairman to replace Normando Novelo, external in this last race came with white number. He mentioned that since November Score spoke about his concern about the financial issue, especially payments to landowners, and on Tuesday 31 May took important decisions for the following editions. Similarly, it considered urgent that the company takes over fences placed along the route at least in the area where there is a greater influx of people. He also indicated that the latest incident, where he died the minor hit, was the result of the irresponsibility of parents who do not measure the consequences. "We have to apply ourselves and be more strict, rigid. So in the next race Baja 1000, we will require envallen from above the stream, on both sides, so that people from below is watching the show. " He did not rule that the contract request more money for each corridor, so there is no economic loss. For his part, Secretary of State Tourism, Oscar Escobedo Carignan, mentioned the importance of everyone having more wisely, "we will make a suggested regulation as legislating activity". He talked about the realization of the Baja 300 in September, and the Baja 1000 in November, which is coming to La Paz. "But more requirements than say, if people commit indiscretions can not do anything because, that day, I know, if the police moved the place, the people went and approached the track," exemplified the public servant. Therefore he suggested that everyone do their part, to take care and, for now, "we will take the next step, which is to make a regulation that will have it ready for the Baja 1000". Another point to consider is that since 2015, off-road racing are held the same weekend sporting events, which has reduced spending makes Proturismo security, hiring private security to ensure integrity of participants and fans. In the absence of police, it is the second time that the Security Directorate is declared incompetent to cover all safety on the route, so Proturismo has had to hire private agents, which cost up to 80 thousand pesos. FATHER GIVES THE FORGIVENESS As recorded in video released on social networks, in the case of a child who was crushed by the Trophy number 75, the family was in an extremely dangerous area along with a dozen other people who achieved to avoid the heavy unit it overturned on a curve. Roger Norman CEO of Score International About the event, the deputy of the State, Marco Chavarria Lopez, reported that in relation to the legal status of broker Baja 500, Todd "N", assured on Saturday June 4 by officers Security Directorate, after running over the child who died as a result of the accident and cause injury to the mother of the deceased child, was referred to the Public Prosecution for the crimes of homicide and injuries because fault. He was released, under the crimes imputed not provide custody and the child's parents were granted forgiveness, so that the prosecution did not set the defendant payment for damages. I may be missing something since it's the translated version but the article is pretty out there, imo. I doubt if the race was losing the city of Ensenada millions of dollars they'd still be setting up the race for SCORE.

The jump between the deaths this year to prostitution and then to alleged cartel activities that are well out of SCOREs control doesn't make sense and seem to just be trying to rile people up. It's only a step above a buzz feed click bait article.

Agree, I had a hard time keeping up with all of the topics. The Google translated version also stated that this year's 1000 is going to La Paz -- isn't the 49th edition of the Baja 1000 going to be a loop race?

"He talked about the realization of the Baja 300 in September, and the Baja 1000 in November, which is coming to La Paz."

Including La Paz would make it a very long loop race.

The City of Ensenada pays for the race to be there. The businesses there profit greatly, but I'm not sure what the tax base is there so not sure what the City's revenue from that is. I could see "the City" not making money after everything they have to pay for before and after the event, especially since they have to pay for the things listed above. Just MHO.

Yes The City of Ensenada does pay to have the circus of RN, take in consideration that ENS has been growing and changing over the years and doesn't depend for there tourism economy or in general from SCORE racing. They have stated in the past the red numbers and only a niche of business people benefit from SCORE racing, also ENS has other industries that pump them a lot of money and the factor of domestic foreigners from main land Mexico and foreigners from other nations.

Remember the Congress of the State of BC has authorized the Ensenada Int'l Airport to be build in Ojos Negros, for sure expect a lot of changes in the route and host citys for Baja racing and also a safer format in my opinion.

In the Northern part of TJ-Rosarito -TKT theres a lot of movement opening new routes for racing.

The Maniak Rosarito - Tecate 200 point to point race is a example in July.

Yes, but the vineyards will tire of dust on their crops and noise bugging their high dollar yuppies down for the weekend to sample the wine and pay twice as much as we do for rooms. I think Ensenada was doing better before the great Recession(the crime seemed to be less then) and they are looking for new ways to build those tourism dollars. If we become a drag instead of a boot to their economy, don't look for any favors.

it is like our motor cycle rally, The Sturgis motorcycle rally and races. The city loses money providing services it doesn't gain back in taxes. But the regional economy gains. As does every fuel stop ect for hundreds of miles. I have seen signs ect saying riders, rally goers stop here and the likes and talk to people and stores from Wisconsin, Texas, Idaho, Utah, all along the lines in that big of a radius that lead here that see an impact. There gets to be big lines of bikes and pickups and campers for fuel in the last 200 mile radius for a week and a half. Bottom line is it creates outside income and revenue for the area and areas leading to it. In the long term they get money they wouldn't with out the event.
