Great race near Albuquerque, NM this past Saturday May 2nd. 150 miles on a loop course. Here are some pictures I got from the race:

Rock Racer roll over:

Class 1 winner was 101 of Rigsby Racing driven by Mike Lury, Truck winner was the Trophy Lite, overall was the yellow 1008 buggy

I'm sorry, did you say the #1008 took the overall over the #101? Come on Rigsby gas is on the right!!! Just messing with you, good job with the class win.

A 10car overalled? Mike, you didn't let a 10car beat you, did you? This must also be the first ever time that a trophy lite won the truck category, against trophy trucks and all! Trophy Lite history in the making! I saw that Cottin and Randy were there with their badazz rock racer! (hardly just a rock crawler) Was John Smetana there racing anything? New Mexico has pretty rainbows!

Not by much, I think just a matter of seconds.

Randy raced the buggy, I dont think Cottin came. After the roll and winching him back over he got right back on the gas and kept on going! RJ was the only other rock racer.

The Trophy Lite was on it all day. No trophy trucks but a few 8s and 1400s. Didnt see John Smetana's name anywhere so I dont think so.

Ok, yes a 10 car overalled but only by 16 seconds, keep in mind that this was only the second time the driver had raced this class 1, also the intercom went out on lap 3 or 4 leaving only hand signals for directions and turn call outs. Ariel (class 10) was a very fast driver we cant take that from him but he also has many more miles under his belt. All in all it was another amazing day in the dirt with great people, and hey a finish is still a finish, and in dont know if anyone mentioned first in class, this was just testing for the 500.

Great race to everyone again it was a blast out there!!!!

Thank you ODR

Congrats Sabin (if you read rdc) first time at a race in your truck and took third good job man!

Yes, the race started at 5:00. Earlier they ran ATV's and UTV's. We had a great time, even though we broke an axel on lap 5. I hope we see a lot of the NM racers at the Shamrock, TX 200 next month.

Sorry that the guys from San Antonio missed it. Our car isnt ready but we like to support the local stuff when we can either way(8 hour drive is local for Texas). We should be ready for the next one for sure. Great photos and im excited to see between racing in Texas and New Mexico we are growing as a group.

Great photos!

I was the lil green 10 car. The guy with the yellow 10 car that overalled was a very good driver. Very aggressive. He caught up to me at a road crossing where I was stopped due to road traffic and he passed me about 5 miles later. I kinda gave the pass away real easy because we figured he was way faster. I started pushing it harder after I saw his pace and about a mile or so later I passed him back and kept him behind me for about 2 laps before my radiator turned into a hot water shower. The rad mount broke and it flopped around and got a hole in it. I found it easier to follow him when he passed me than to drive with him behind me wondering where he was constantly. It was easier to maintain the his pace and pick better lines. We had passed the yellow Galles class 1 car and lapped some trucks before I got into the battle with the yellow 10 car so I at least got some passing experience and the adrenaline rush of it all before we broke. I think 1 of the class 1 cars broke early so we had 2 class 1's in front of us when we broke. One of them was about 50 ft away when I had to stop. I was having a blast and was crushed that we had to stop. I wanted to make another pass on that next car... It was my first desert race and we had a great time. I spent the last 6 months building my car out in the garage from a pile of tubing and plate and it was awesome to finally race my first race. Been dreaming about it for years... I talked to a lot of the competitors and everyone was cool. Was a fun experience despite the non-finish. Now I can't wait for the next race. I have a few things to work on and beef up (like rad mounts) but I learned a lot from this one.

We got a chance to check out the cars after the race. The Rigsby car is absolutely awesome. I first saw that car at Snowflake 2 years ago when I first got interested in doing this. I still freak out everytime I see it.
