Projects for sell, should I buy?

A buddy has 4 - 35X12.50-17 Projects, new, never mounted. He wants $960 for the set. Now here's the thing, I don't need them any time soon, but I will in about 12-18 months, should I buy them and stick them in a back bed room, or will they dry out sitting unmounted for that long? I know this is sort of a stupid/loaded question, but I don't wont to spend the money if there going to be junk 18 months from now when I need them.

Are they the DOT-approved or the Kevlar sidewall racing model?

BFG does not make a 35X12.50-17 Project.

Now that Ive looked around, I figured out that "projects" are the full race tire. I guess these would be Baja TA's with the "project" tread. How much are these tires new? I can't find a price on them any where.

Ok I found a place that has them, and they want $2186 for 4. I think I'll pick them up. But I was wondering if sitting for 12-18 months would hurt. That was my question..

OK, now I'm now confused more than before. I just talked to the guy on the phone, and he looked at them, and said all 4 says KR on them, but two say "for racing only" and two of them are DOT. They are white letter on one side, and black letter on the other. I read here on rd.com that Baja TA's are black letter on both sides. Can someone chime in on what the heck these are?

Have you seen these? If they ate the "Project Tread" and 35X12.50-17 than they are Baja T/As. True "Projects" only came in 35X12.50-15, 37X12.50-17 or 39X13.50-17 Are you sure they are not short course tires?

Sitting that long shouldn't hurt if they're out of the sun. Check the date codes.
