As many already know our great friend Jason Jake Batulis tragically lost his life racing the NORRA 1000 last week. Taken too soon is a massive understatement. Jake was one of the best humans I have ever know. Grew up around him, raced with him, played with him and loved him. Will really miss Jake in this life but I know he's up there laying down a massive dust trail for everyone to follow. The Prep By Jake name will live on. God speed and race in peace my friend. Service is planned for may 16th. Come hang out and send off one of the best humans ever.

Jake was more than just an awesome Fabricator, with him being important pieces to many off-road race teams, such as DaveCo, Raceco, Scalzo Racing, Giant Motorsports, Desert Assassins, Stout Racing and BJ Baldwin Motorsports .. (Also showing off his talents at SpaceX, designing Rockets and Satellites) ... He also was an awesome Father and a good friend to many of us. San Clemente lost one of its OG brothers and he will be missed terribly ... Race On Jake #prebyjake #jakesway #spacex

What a bummer..... I had the homer and pleasure of having a beer and eating tamales with Jake on the back of the boxvan in Laredo the night before he passed. He was happy, laughing and having a blast in Mexico on his last night with us here. God speed my friend... see u on the other side.

I doubt I can tell this story as well as my dad. But at parker one year in the 90's they were going down the paved part of the race course in our old motorhome. The throttle cable broke. So they rigged up a tie down to it and stretched it back to the couch area in the motor home. Jake manned the throttle by pulling on it and he became for ever known as The Throttle Man! I was very young but in the motorhome at the time and slightly remember it. One of my favorite memories ever.

Another time I was co riding in our class 11 with Jake at a night fud race in plaster city. I was 13 years old at the time I think. And it was late at night. I was so tired I was falling asleep in the passenger seat. We went under the bridge crossing and somehow I missed the girl flashing us standing on top. I remember Jake yelling at me ROB DID YOU SEE IT???!!! I was like huh? Then he explained what I had missed out on. Jake gave me a good ride that night and we had a blast. One of the few times I had the pleasure of co riding with him in a race. Another great memory I will probably never forget.

I will always be proud that I helped mold Jake into the man he became, I met Jake when he had just gotten out of high school at a Baja 500 Cameron Steele and I were racing 1600 together. Cam had a tendency to bring all kinds of kids with him to our earlier races together so we go out past Ojos Negros to test the car and what a hot day it was, I was sitting in my ford ranger with the air on sipping a cold coke when this long haired kid comes and taps on my window asking me for a coke!!! I told him no and asked what kind of dummy comes out here with nothing to drink?? I ended up giving him a water, Little did I know I had just met my life long best friend. and to say he was a kid that needed guidence is a under statement but slowly we became friends and he came to me one day and asked me will you teach me how to weld? and fit tubing? I asked him what do you want to do in life as he had no guidance, I nearly had him talked into joining the airforce but we talked more and he really wanted to learn all the facets of racing off road. To say he picked it up right away would be a lie lol My wife Kristine and I brought Jake into our lives and made him part of our family, I let Jake borrow all my fab tools to open his first shop which was his parents 1 car garage lol and then helped him get into a real shop giving him money to help with first and last months rent and deposit. And all my fab tools. He would pile all that stuff into a Nissan pathfinder and come down to my house every single weekend to work on the race cars we would end up racing together. I really love Jake and he was like a son to me,and also several others like Chris White Justin Bean Smith Cam Steele and so many others losing Jake was a huge gut punch to my entire family, and let me tell you my family is huge. I love you Jake. This is the only time Jake did not call me to tell me he was racing, my brother nearly lost his life on a Motorcycle and lost his leg and I always gave Jake crap about getting on a bike. I know he knew I would have given him a hard time racing a bike at his age with 3 boys at home and I tracked Jake all the way down and saw when he went from 64.5 mph to 0 not knowing he crashed, I thought he had problems like the day before. You never know in life, Jake was a very strong man and I will miss him badly

Jake came to my pit on day 2 in el crucero 4th place in the race, fueled him up, asked for a bottle of water and asked how many bikes were ahead of him, I told him he was I 4th place. He said, not bad at all. And continued on to race. R.I.P. Jake
