SCORE Henderson\'s Terrible 250

It's that time of year again, and we have finalized all of our ancillary events as well as race details.

We learned allot last year thanks to those that took part in our two surveys. Because of your suggestions we were able to make positive changes. The most notable of these changes were to move Tech and Contingency on Water Street into the evening hours (5pm to 10pm), and have the concert and $7,000 pit crew competition while contingency is open. We also moved the race to the morning hours (6am Group A, 8am Group B). Lastly we will have multiple spectator areas on the course (though the start/finish line in the El Dorado Dry Lake will be the most elaborate with vendors, restrooms, etc.) and the Award Celebration and Pool Party will be held Saturday night,. Spectator Maps will be made available at Tech and Contingency, or by calling the Henderson Convention and Visitors Bureau at the number below. Expect them to be mailed out July 1st.

For the racer's, we have all of the things that made our event so unique, Added Prize Money, Live Drawing, Pool Party's and Fireworks all thanks to the Herbst Family and Herbst Gaming.

Don’t forget to attend the Charity Driver Bowling Tournament and Charity Video Poker Tournament. These tournaments raise money for Emergency Aid of Boulder City and Volunteers of America.

Brochures are now available with all of the details and ancillary events, by calling 877-775-5252 or stop by the Henderson Convention Center or any Terrible Herbst Convenience Store. While at the Convenience Store, check out our commercial for the race. For those of you that requested a brochure when you took our online survey, the brochure is in the mail.

Thanks again for everyone's support, we hope to see you there.

Re: SCORE Henderson\'s Terrible 250

I remember reading something about a "Jumbo Tron" like they had out at the Laughlin race. Will the Spectator area at the dry lake bed have that? It sure made it nice for the people in the stands. A lot of people really missed some killer footage because they were out on the "poormans hill" out at Laughlin. Just curious.

Re: SCORE Henderson\'s Terrible 250

Sorry Rory, we did make a valiant effort to provide "SCORE Vision", but due to over $40,000 in production and rental costs as well as logistical issues with line of site on both sides of the McCullough Mountain Range, the idea was scraped.

We were attempting to offer SCORE Vision and Spectating for free at this race, but we are funded only by Henderson Hotels and our budget did not allow this year. We felt the money would be better served as added prize money to the racers and creating an incredible event.

Laughlin has done an great job with moving the bar up in Desert Racing. Look to Henderson and Herbst Gaming in the future to do the same.

Thanks for the comments.

Re: SCORE Henderson\'s Terrible 250

Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to watch a desert race the old fashioned way. How refreshing. Hopefully the weather will cooperate. One suggestion, in addition to the commentary that will be offered to the spectating masses, some of the "feel of the race" should be presented to the uninitiated. Perhaps supplementing the commentary with some "live audio" from the racers, or maybe playing the Weatherman broadcast over the P.A. system, so that the fans can hear some of what is going on out in the desert.

Thanks for taking the time to help our sport out.

As long as we're on the subject of the Henderson race, where should I go to reserve vendor space for contingency and the start/finish area, SCORE or the Henderson Visitors Bureau?

My advice is to FEDEX or UPS (Ground) all correspondance with Charlie. Whenever we have faxed, emailed or simply talked on the phone, the message or documents were not received.

Re: SCORE Henderson\'s Terrible 250

I like the idea btshannon had about having the Weatherman and various racers broadcast from the Mobil Stage Sound System. Does anyone have the technical expertise, or know how the radio would plug into a soundboard? Do the race radios have an audio out plug?

Yes race radios do have a audio output....but the plug is like the ones you use for a set of walkmen headphones. I'm sure theres a way to pllug it into a PA system.

which is group "A" and group "B"? Is this bikes on one course, 4 wheel vehicles on another?

Bikes aren't running this race. Group A is faster 4 wheel classes, Group B is slower 4 wheel classes.

Re: SCORE Henderson\'s Terrible 250

Thanks to Scott at PCI, we will have Weatherman and various racers frequencies broadcast at the Mobil Stage located at Start / Finish.

If anyone has any other ideas they would like to share that will enhance the race, please post them or contact the Henderson Convention and Visitors Bureau at 877-775-5252.

Thanks.

Re: SCORE Henderson\'s Terrible 250

What about a beer garden at the start finish area? This would get some of the big beer companies back into the desert racing scene? You could have the speakers broadcasting the weatherman and such in there and charge people to get in, thus offsetting some of the cost or renting the equipment.

The spectator seating area should have some "misters" set up spraying water on the crowd. At least have one section with misters for those who want it. I know theres some people who preffer not to be wet while watching a desert race.

I only wish that I was able to go again....

Re:move home

misters and maybe a large cannopy area with fans or a giant swamp cooler like Herpst brought in for thier pit crew last year. That sucked last year watching all their guys kicked back in front of the huge swamp cooler when the only thing we could rely on to cool us down was when the water truck would drive throught the pits spraying down any spectators that wanted it.

Re: SCORE Henderson\'s Terrible 250

Miller Beer is once again a major sponsor and we welcome Red Bull this year as a sponsor of the race as well. There will be food and beverage vendors, a 40 x 40 food and beverage tent, and a 20' X 120' spectator tent along the edge of the course.

Unfortunately misters will not be an option. This is due to strict guidelines set by SNWA that the City must follow because of severe drought conditions. Private companies or individuals on the other hand, may bring out portable misters if they like.

Bring your own chairs and pop up tents. The Start / Finish line spectator area is about 5 miles long, and 120' of shade tents will go fast.

Remember the race starts at 6am and will conclude around 4:30pm. This will eliminate the hottest part of the day. Also, last year was an unseasonably hot year even for Vegas. This morning as an example is only 76 deg at 8:20am.

Thank you to everyone for your contribution. Please continue to send ideas.

Re: SCORE Henderson\'s Terrible 250

I have a couple of questions about the spectator areas... How close will we be able to get to the course? Do we have to park in a designated lot? Or can we back our trucks into the spectator areas and sit in the beds? Will there be a speed limit on the course in these areas? Is the terrain on the course rough or just pretty smooth around the spectator spots? ( you can understand we want to see the rough stuff
)

Also, any idea of hotel room availablilty as of now?
