I was just wondering why some of the buggies I have seen in videos of races in New Zealand and Australia have extremely long front shocks. Some of the shocks seem to be mounted at really odd angles. Any reason or benefit?

I believe what you are seeing are shocks mounted on the top arm of the beam vs the bottom. the funny angle you are noticing is due to the angle needed for the shock to progressively dampen the front suspension.
