For me it's this, I'm not going to pay more $$$ to be in the same heat with 70 trucks (class 2000 as well) just to start in front of our class and get 1 extra lap at casino races and start behind 12 cars at the desert, it makes no sense to us, And that's how most of us felt, so I will just be up singing for unlimited class this year, and the same with most others. At least being the the pro heat we don't need to worry about coming up on a slow truck at dangerous speeds, at primm and ratr it gets scary sometimes with how quick we come up on more then half our class and class 2000.
as of right now, we have 1450 pro in the class 1/UT heat

Will the SNORE Official Rule Book for 2017 be posted online before B@P?
There were several Class 1450 rules changed with a class vote in the spring.

Reviving this just to say kudos @C.J. Hutchins and SNORE for this move. I don't even race the class but I think in spite of the conventional argument against "new" classes, the 1450 Pro Class has been awesome. Turnout has been solid and has given the dozen or so guys who's programs at are an arguably more 'advanced" level a chance to elevate their game. Super cool seeing the 1450 Pros mixing it up with the unlimiteds at RATR.

The split didn't noticeably dilute the normal sportsman 1450 entries and gives those guys another stepping stone to aspire to if they want. There was a relatively clear distinction to be made between the top handful of 1450 guys and the bulk of the more traditional "average" 1450 racers so after year 1 of this split I feel like this has been a real win-win in my opinion.

I say no. I sat in the drivers meeting at Rage At The River in 2016 to watch all these guys lobby for 1450 pro but the following year they never race it once.. I'm not calling out Parson, Isenhower, or Smith but there were a bunch of others that said we had to have that class but never race it.. 1450 should always be sportsman, they've tried it before and it doesn't last long. Want to run pro, Heavy Metal or Build a 6100 truck..

I am for it. Yes it took off slow. Because when you go pro you gotta step up your game, There are several who are really good at this and if you win every race by an hour where is the competition in that, Anyways i know a lot of guys used this year to build and install better motors and it showed at several races throughout the year and these guys were not slow in the last heat at rage. They deserved to be called professional racers. Lets see what next year brings. As i believe this year was a learning curve for all 1400 racers.

I think Pro is fine, but many of them should NOT have been in the unlimited heat. Several real 'pro' racers racing in true unlimited cars had issues with passing because some of the brophy trucks might have thought it was one of the buddies behind them and decided to make their hoopties 3 wide when caught. Saw it a few times. Not cool. You're caught, get over.

It was my understanding that all the 1450 guys REALLY wanted was to have their own qualifying (and some payback.)

They could have sorted out payback on their own (with side bets) but that left them with no qualifying still. Its unfortunate that such a big class doesn't have their own qualifying. (Especially at RATR and BAP) Im sure they would have been fine with a larger entry to cover the costs.

Not really related to the overall topic, but they should have kept 6100s in the last heat and out the 1450 pro guys in with the 1450s and 2000s, in my opinion. I’m sure it probably key had something to do with car count, but no way should 6100s have been running around with 2000s.

1450 sportsman here. I don’t care about qualifying or payback. I just want it to be affordable and fun. Hope the pro guys are getting what they want out of the split.

I was thinking the same thing, Prich. There are some 1450 Pro guys who have the talent and money to run with the unlimited guys, but there were still plenty of place fillers that didn't seem to understand they were place fillers. And it was not an open desert race, it was a psuedo-shortcourse race. There were a couple folks who entered 1450 pro, I believe simply to get more seat time, and they seemed to understand that, and they were very courteous, but there were some who simply still believe the 14 class is about hitting your buddies bumper rather than passing and winning. And some TT guys suffered from it. The swap you proposed would have solved a lot of that.
