Significant Changes to Mint 400 Racer Contingency On/Off Load and Contingency Route

Racers,

Please see the new route for Tech & Contingency off/on load. Off/On load will be located at the Symphony lot on the North East corner of 360 Promenade Place, Las Vegas, NV 89106, between S. Grand Central Parkway and S. City Parkway. Please enter the lot on S. Grand Central Parkway.

This is the only on/off load lot location. You will be police escorted in groups of 3 down ogden to the entry point on 6th and ogden. The route remains the same as previous years from there.

Your trucks & trailers WILL be able to park in that lot until your race vehicle returns from tech.

ABSOLUTELY NO DRIVING RACE VEHICLES ON PUBLIC STREETS WITHOUT POLICE ESCORT!

Going to repeat that, NO driving race vehicles on public streets without a police escort.

The Symphony lot is for truck & trailers only. Absolutely NO single trucks without trailers.

Line up begins at 6am. Contingency opens at 8am and closes at 6pm. Drivers Meeting is at 7pm.

Please tune in your race radio to Weatherman for more info on contingency day.

Is this what you mean by police escort? This being Vegas and all...

Great solution. Plus you get the added bonus of having people on the west end of Fremont see the cars and wonder what in the hell is going on.

That is a no.
I am a little confused. If a vehicle is plated and legal to drive on the street, why would you not be able to drive it to contingency? Is there special laws in place in Vegas for this race?

They may be doing the escort to control staging at the head of the line. Let's say 10-15% of the field have registered, plated cars (which I doubt would pass NV/Clark county regs, smog, noise, turn signals/other lighting, proof of insurance), if they just choose when to show up at the head of the line there may not be any place to put them. Unless the specific VIN of that car is insured, it can't be operated on NV public roads regardless of where it's from. I doubt many (if any) are insured with street car insurance. The city absolutely has the authority to enforce provisions relevant to the event downtown. I wouldn't test Metro on it. In NV if you are operating a vehicle that is not insured or otherwise legal to drive they will impound it.

Special event, special rules? Las Vegas Metro is a GREAT group of Men and Women that put up with a lot of crap year round. They have let stuff slide. Why tip over the apple cart? Nevada has laws in place that other areas don't. I am able to ride my mobility scooter down the street, pulling an ice chest full of beer, while drinking one. How many other places can you do that? Not CA AZ OR. Not even the great state of Texas allows that.

It's a mixture or what @vegasloki and @CMA GUMBY said. There is protocol set with about ten different agencies/parties that come in to play. What we can't have is one guy not following that protocol, then have another 10-15 follow.

Vehicles will be escorted in groups of 3. Those 3 vehicles will enter right in to the contingency route. When there are three more available slots in the contingency spot entrance, metro will escort 3 more vehicles from the staging area to the contingency entrance and so on for the remaining 367 vehicles. We can't have people driving around causing confusion to the plan.

If you weren't waiting in line at Symphony Park you'd be waiting in line downtown to get from Ogden to Fremont then the push down to tech. You are held there because there is no room in line for you yet. When I left at about 2 there were still trucks coming to stage. You should have gotten up earlier and made it to staging.
