we had a stroker in our stone stock explorer at foutz that was pretty nice and reliable once we go it set up right. It put 185hp to the wheels with 33s on the dyno. Main thing is make sure whoever is doing the motor work has experience with the 4.0. There are a few little trick things that need to be done and clearenced. I have had 2 bad experiences when we used a couples guys who hadnt done 4.0s before.
is this going to be a dayly driver or just race and play? also it is more spendy to stroke the 4.0 than it is to put a v8 in it. I would recommend putting an explorer 5.0 in it with trans. The explorer goes in relativly easy compared to the mustang. also you can get headers for the explorer that work on the mustang and are smog legal. where are you located? i can get pretty good deals one complete swap packages with trans, comp, elect, and acessories.
So who has swapped in an explorer 5.0 and transmission into their ranger? What transmission comes in the explorers. My trucks a 97' and I can trade some work for a motor or motor/transmission swap. depending on the donors mileage and type of transmission is it worthwhile to beef up the transmission, cooler, valve body?
Since the registration would be paid would I need the time to satisfy the ref/carb or whoever of the swap? What about throttle bodies and intake I can get great deal on edelbrock rpm intake and the whole setup larger injectors and all from a road race mustang.
Basically I'm curious if its easier because the motor came from an explorer, will the accessories fit ac,ps
fabricating mounts and cossmembers are no problem just want it to be fairly smooth(HAH).
