Day 1:
From JC to the R2C group…..

Good morning all
Today was a difficult stage for many especially for RB as he was opening the track most of the day. After refueling, Barreda caught Ricky and they lost their way as did many others in this area.
In all, Ricky sits in a 1hr deficit behind the leaders in 35th for the stage and (21st overall ranking. He is mad as Bull but ready to push back to the top where he belongs. 11 stages and over 3500km left in the rally.
On a more positive note,
His HRC Teammate Pablo Quintanilla sits in 2nd overall.
Barreda 15th
And
Nacho 18th.
Tomorrow was suppose to be a marathon stage,
But due to the excessive rain in the area, ASO is making modifications to the route.
Enjoy your day, more to come!

Day 2:
Stage 2
Hail to Al Artawiyah
338km special
568km total
Track description of fast Sandy tracks with small dune crossings.
Some difficult navigation which is the theme from the organization as they have made this years addition very complex in order to slow the race down.
Most of the course was wet sand from previous nights rain.
HRC’s Ricky Brabec started in 32nd position and made headway toward the front pack.
Finishing in 15th overall and bringing some time back from the previous days deficit. Ricky’s teammate Joan Barreda destroyed the competitors today taking a dominate win in stage 2, Nacho Cornejo stayed consistent while yesterdays 2nd place finisher Pablo Quintanilla had a navigation error and suffered a 30 min setback.
HRC racers finish positions stage 2:
J. Barreda: 1st overall
N. Cornejo: 12th +14:26
R. Brabec: 15th +15:04
P. Quintanilla 26th +30:53

Tomorrows stage will be another long one,
368km special
555km total.

Enjoy your day!

Day 3:

Stage 3 Al Qaisumah to Al Qaisumah
Liaison 214km
Stage 255km
Liaison 166km
Total 635km

Todays stage was very fast and straight. Made up of sand tracks, camel grass and dunes.
HRC riders played the chess game today in preparation for tomorrows stage 4 (the longest special of the rally), finishing positions were highly important for taking the most advantage for this stage.
Ricky Brabec had an uneventful ride to land his best finish this thus far in 7th position.
Teammate Nacho Cornejo landed in 12th.
Joan Barreda opened the entire stage, doing an admirable job, only losing 10 minutes in doing so finishing 24th
And Pablo Quintanilla 26th.
All riders are in a strategic position as the rally goes toward the capital of Saudi Arabia in Riyadh.

Tomorrows stage:
Liaison 242km
Stage 465km
Total 707km

With an unprecedented
Amount of unpredictability, let's see how this stage plays out tomorrow!

Enjoy your day

Stage 4
Al Qaisumah to Riyadh
99km liaison
465km stage
140km liaison

Early morning start on liaison A as rider took to the road section at 5am with temps just above freezing. This was the longest stage of the rally and littered with advanced navigation. Experienced riders positioned themselves in stage 3 to start back so they had a line to follow and attempt to make up time for maximum advantage.
Playing the long game,
HRC’s Joan Barreda took it to them starting in 24th off the line and dominated the stage as he did in stage 2 taking the win over team mate Pablo Quintanilla by 3 min and 37 sec.
Ricky Brabec ran a strong stage to 10th and Nacho Cornejo landing in 12th.
The flip-flop pattern is likely to continue through stage 5 & 6 when the rally finally arrives at a much anticipated rest day.

Tomorrows stage 5 will take the riders on a 556km loop from Riyadh back Riyadh with the timed portion at 341km of that.
The Assistant crews will get a break- as they will stay put in the same bivouac.

Enjoy your day!

More from 11x when Cameron asked him to asses the race so far:

Assessment of results,
Interesting conditions,
Wet sand leaving a dark line to follow for all.
The guys that open the track have a real time disadvantage.
Think about the top ten,
Each start 3 min apart if you start 10th and catch and pass the stage opener you made 30 min on them.

Generally guys like Joan or Ricky can move through the pack quickly with a rear start as you have seen with Joan and Pablo.
As far as RB, he’s riding fast and well but hasn’t been able to find that blistering pace like Joan thus this far.
We shall see what the day brings tomorrow.
It’s drier here in Riyadh so maybe he will find that to his liking.

From JC 11X:

It’s very difficult. The way they lay out the road books now and plus the wet dirt this week make this whole deal a fluid target.
Day by day.
Brabec along with others lost 45-1hr time from one note.
It can easily happen again, we are only 1/3 of the way.

From JC:

Stage 5
Liaison A 89km
Stage 345km
Liaison B 128km

For the 5th stage of the rally the bikes will run a separate course then the cars and trucks. The terrain started to change to less sandy conditions and an increase in hard tracks and rocky washes. Some dust was reported for the first time since the rally commenced on the first stage in Northern Saudi Arabia.
HRC’s Nacho Cornejo and Ricky Brabec finally made a break through finishing 4th and 5th respectively.
Both riders making up time in the general standings.
Joan Barreda and Pablo Quintanilla were both challenged with opening the track today. Barreda lead out and had a big get off in a rocky section causing damage to the bike and himself. Teammate Pablo Quintanilla had stopped to help to make sure he was ok to continue. Pablo finished in 23rd position dropping some 18 min to the stage leader.
Barreda, finished the stage 27th bruised and battered.

General classification after 5 of 12 stages:
7. Quintanilla +16:55
11. Barreda +22:58
15. Cornejo +42:04
17. Brabec +48:27

Tomorrows stage,
Second longest special of the rally will be another loop type using some of the car stage from today:
Riyadh-Riyadh
Stage: 430km
Liaisons: 214km

Have an inspiring day everyone!

Stage 6:
Riyadh to Riyadh:
Modified stage: 100km
Liaisons approx: 400km

The stage was cut today due to treacherous conditions made by the car and trucks the day before, using much of the same route. The organization deemed it too dangerous to continue after multiple riders needed emergency medical assistance and all assets were in play.

HRC’s Ricky Brabec opened the track after passing the top 3 lead out riders. After the decision to cut the stage at km100 he finished 5th on the day.
Pablo Quintanilla took well advantage of the rear start finishing 4th.
A very bruised and broken Joan Barreda soldiered to 14th and Top HRC rider yesterday Nacho Cornejo slid back to 22nd after playing it safe on the torn-up tracks.
All riders have made it to rest day intact, with the exception of Barreda who is looking forward to the day off more than the others.

General standings for HRC:
5: Quintanilla: +17:44
9: Barreda +25:59
13: Cornejo +46:54
15: Brabec +49:20

Never give up!
Enjoy your passion!

Just a short text from JC that I messed up and didn’t save.
He said the rest day felt good and that they were busy packing up for a 3:30 am departure from the bivouac.

Man, some rest day. That’s a tough race on everyone there!

Looks like they’re gonna use Ricky and Cornejo to play the chess game and open track for Barreda and Quintanilla.
